The Facility

Protecting Wraeclast from the scum of the Cataclysm

It was a sliver of Malachai's soul that animated the first Eternal Guardian, and Malachai's entire force of will that animated the largest.

Hidden on a small river near the Chamber of Sins is a secret facility. This ruin, now partially rebuilt and repurposed, is the home of Wraeclast's Masters-in-exile, working together to discover the cause of the Cataclysm and protect the world from its effects.

History

This facility was once home to Malachai's most secret experiments and inventions, devices so horrific that they must be developed in confidence or he would be shut down. Two experiments in particular stood out: first, a waypoint altar salvaged from a Vaal ruin, a nexus Malachai believed capable of accessing the entire network of Vaal waypoints across Wraeclast, and with which Malachai was experimenting; second, a massive Vaal statue discovered within an old tomb, which Malachai decided to rebuild as a Gemling Construct, the greatest defender of his realm.

The Construct's head was implanted with every Virtue Gem possible, and hollowed so Malachai could stand within and control it directly. One auspicious day, as the Rebels closed in, Malachai climbed inside and activated the Construct, but the vast concentration of Gems drove the Construct mad and it began to destroy the laboratory. With all of his will Malachai attacked the Construct from the within, shattering the Gems and completely destroying his finest work. With no way to defend, Malachai was forced to abandon the laboratory and many inventions.

Many years later, Zana happened on the altar as she explored the waypoint network. Exploring the facility she found the ruins of the Gemmed Construct, and realised that using the power that reamined within the Construct and the altar she could create a more powerful version of the map device she had already acquired. Slowly she refurbished the laboratory, eventually reaching out to the other Masters and forming an alliance. This would be their home base, largely secret from the rest of Wraeclast, where they could get on with their business.

Tour

The entrance, open to all now that the Masters have taken over, is still largely unknown. An exile stands by to ensure all are greeted and screened before entry.

The waypoint altar, a nexus created by the Vaal of which very little is understood. Regardless, Zana draws energy from it to power her map device.

Zana's modified map device is more powerful than the portable one she carries, but is tied to one spot.

Bustling with activity when cargo is delivered, this space is used to house new exiles until space can be found elsewhere.

The head of the Construct, now staring blankly at nothing with dead eyes.

Catarina's experiments produce waste, and that waste in turn powers her enigmatic shrine.

Masters

Each Master is scattered throughout the facility, with their own space themed to their speciality:

Zana's workshop is near to the Construct's head. She is constantly rebuilding equipment and improving her map device.

Haku can usually be found in the armoury, finding peace in the maintenance and creation of armour and weapons.

Elreon's study boasts a large fireplace and mountains of books, which are constantly strewn around the room as he studies the Cataclysm and the altar. The fireplace cleanses jewellery before blessings are conveyed.

When she's not out putting down corrupted beasts Tora can be found meditating in a lush grove that sprang up naturally in the ruined chest of the Construct.
