Previous Hideouts: From Torment to Present
Creating hideouts is one of the activities that keeps me playing in new leagues. It is a lot of fun for me to build a hideout that fits the theme of my main character for that league. I do a lot of trading, both buying and selling, so I get to see other people's hideouts and they get to see mine frequently. I love seeing what others come up with, and take pride in buyers running around looking at my hideout during trades.
Unfortunately, at the end of leagues only the hideout with the most decorations persists in Standard league, so I try to take a short video to allow for some memory of the effort and creative vision that went in my various 'homes' for three months. This can be pretty fun as well. I enjoy picking out suitable music to add to these videos. I tend to play in a serious manner roughly every other league, and as such, only the hideouts for the leagues I am more involved in make it to the point where it is worth recording. Full playlist in chronological order With Essence drawing to a close, I figured I should post the videos of my hideouts here before they are lost to the innumerable sands of time so others can enjoy them and create interesting hideouts of their own. All of my videos include a section where I walk through with the object-names visible. Feel free to pause anytime to get a closer look at how the various decorative elements were constructed and arranged. Here are descriptions of the hideouts complete with videos: The Shrine of Flesh and Bone As the hideout for Essence league, this is the most recent. My main character was a zombie necromancer by the name of Nequitae, so I wanted a hideout that would function as a repository and source for the corpses reanimated as zombies. I used the unique item, Mon'tre'gul's Grasp, so I created an area at the top with four malformed corpses stitched-together with various body parts to represent the ones I used. This foul lair served as a plage-ridden nexus of necromantic energy, swarming with flies feasting upon the ravaged flesh of hundreds of human and animal corpses. A blasphemous altar of body parts and skeletons serves as the focus for the map device. Living prisoners are experimented on with dark magic in preparation for their death to disease and eventual fate as undead minions. The Ancient Cavern This was my first serious hideout. This was created back in Torment league. It was inspired by the first episode of the Hideout of the Week series. Due to my inexperience at hideout construction, this primarily consists of a series of themed rooms. The waypoint is centered on a wood-floored lobby with a dining area nearby. There is also a crafting area filled with Vaal artifacts. I think I did a good job incorporating the Vaal furniture into the crafting benches. There is also a small treasure room for the stashes and an overgrown chamber for the map device. I did not have a single main character, but I remember playing an Arc shadow using the then-popular Cloak of Defiance. Sanctum of The Three & Chamber of Conjuration of the Watcher This was my hideout for Talisman league. My main character was an Essence Drain shadow by the name of Mynock Tzolta. This area is intended to be a remote temple to the goddess Hekate, with an area dedicated to the intricate rites necessary to summon the being known as The Watcher, as detailed in the Necronomicon. The sorcerous flame of the aga mass sssratu burns with eldritch fire as a beacon of summoning. There is also an indoor side area with a stove for warmth and a ruined tower enclosing the waypoint. Volcanic Energy Generator This is my favorite hideout so far. I created this in Perandus league, my most successful league since I started playing. This character was a Storm Call elementalist by the name of Thegrezenia Eglenceli, dealing lightning damage with some fire. The idea behind this hideout was for the geothermal energy to provide magical power to the map device and to function as a research library for my character.. I am especially proud of the clean and organized layout and the volcanic caldera at the top. Light as a neutral force. The new flesh emerges.
