Tidal Island crashes as soon as I enter

Brand new account, brand new character. As soon as I enter Tidal Island, game sound is gone and within a few seconds, the game freezes & crashes without any error message.

System:
Windows 10 1809
Core i5 2600K
8GB RAM
nVidia 1050 Ti (game at 1080p, with dual monitors)

Steps to reproduce:
- Reset all graphics settings to default
- Switched to dx9
- Changed all graphics settings to their lowest options
- Switched off multithreading

The game crashes in exactly the same place - as soon as I enter Tidal Island - every single time in the exact same way (first sound goes, then within seconds the game entirely freezes).

Not sure what else to do?

2. Try to delete the cache folders in your path of exile install directory.
3. Try to delete content.ggpk or the full game and redownload it.

(why dx9 and multithread off?)
