RECOUP DAMAGE - HOW DOES IT WORK?
is the "recouped" damage percentage absorbed or do you still take it?

Read the wiki on Recoup. The very fact that Recoup provides a regenerative effect should be enough to answer your question.

"Recoup" is the new hotkey that is used for the old "damage taken gained as life". The mechanic is the same: When you take damage, you also gain a temporary regeneration (which, despite the name, it is neither a regen, a gained or a recover - hence the new name "recoup") whose magnitude scales with the damage you took.
Thus, Recoup mechanics can work with Cast when Damage Taken, When-Hit, Stopped Taking Damage and any other mechanics that involves getting you hurt rather than avoid the incoming damage. The more you get hurt, the stronger the recoup will get |

" thank you and please excuse my confusion due to all these terms. its still not clear to me, that percentage of damage that you ”recoup” is also taken, right? in other words, there is no damage mitigation from this mechanic, right? You bore me, mageling.

Well, not in the strict term of Damage Mitigation. Usually, when you think "damage mitigation", you think about mechanics that lowers the damage you receive, like Less Damage Taken, so that you will lose as less EHP as possible.
Recoup reverts the usual "better safe than sorry": you still take the damage, and you will take it at full force. However, just after you take that damage, some of that damage taken will be used in order to quickly recover something, usually Mana or Life. This way builds that are oriented about taking Savage Strikes, or that need to actually take some damage in order to proc their abilities (like Cast When Damage Taken or Autobombers) can still have a layer of defence that respect their build style. So, as stated: the "recoup" percentage is based on the damage you took. The more you get hurt, the more you will recoup. In order for recoup to work, you must take damage, and as much as possible... without dying, that is. Last edited by Maxtrux#0762 on Aug 5, 2021, 3:20:56 PM

Related to the topic (look someone did a nice exhumation here) i have another question.
Is the regen based on the actual damage after mitigation and so on or is it based on the possible damage taken? |

" yes for anyone reading this who might be confused and just wants the short answer, yes you still take the damage. " im not 100% sure, but the way it is worded is 'damage taken' which to the best of my knowledge would be after mitigation. its not damage dealt to you, its the damage you take. from wiki: " I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :) Last edited by Snorkle_uk#0761 on Jul 8, 2025, 11:07:40 AM
