Help with crucible items

Hi everyone,
I need to gather some intel on crucible items before I find myself in "expensive mistakes were made" type of situation. Recently I bought a crucible karui maul with a fully extended crucible tree. I'd like to know these things before I do anything with it: 1. Can I use base currency to change its mods without loosing the crucible mods? 2. Can I still gain experience on the crucible in any way? 3. I've heard that you can transfer a crucible onto another item of the same class with awakeners orb. Does it reset the crucible? I assume after transferring, the item I transfer it onto will get all the mods reforged - right? 4. Can I transfer crucible onto a synthesized item? 5. If I made an imprint of the item I'd like to transfer the crucible onto will be able to restore its previous mods without loosing crucible tree?
