Question about a getting a level 21 vaal summon skelletons with 20% quality

Hi,

I have the following question:

Right now I have six summon skelleton gems with 20% quality and they are all
LEVEL 1.

If I want to have a LEVEL 21 summon vaal skelleton gem with 20% quality, do I need to level them up to LEVEL 20 (max) and then try my luck with a vaal orb...

OR

can I try my luck early with a level 1 and 20% quality summon skelletons ?

My thinking: When I hit the vaal version and the gem is level 2 instead of level 1 I just have to level it to 21, or did I miss something ??

And you have to use the temple lvl 3 gem room for a chance of 21/20 vaal.

Hmmm, but when I hit some level 1 skelleton gems with a vaal orb, sometimes they are a level higher after that.

Does this now mean A: this now level 2 gem does stops at level 20,

OR

B: it does stop at level 21, because I got a + 1 level from a
vaal orb early, when the gem was level 1 ?



If A. is true, it means, that the + 1 level from a level 1 gem to a level 2 by a
vaal orb is completely different then a + 1 level from level 20 to level
21 by a vaal orb.


Is it different or not ?

It is completely different, 1x Vaal Orb has a chance to increase the level of the gem by 1 level.
So if you vaal orb it at level 1, it has a chance of being lv2 corrupted
In the same as as using a vaal orb on it at level 20, it has a chance of being lv21 corrupted.
But you cannot use a vaal orb to achieve 2x vaal effects
The same way a vaal orb can convert it to vaal, it cannot also give it +1 level.
So using vaal orbs on a level 20/20% skill gem has a chance of making it lv21 or vaal never both.

Yes.
You could also just lose a lvl, lose some quality or gain some quality.

Ofcourse; typical Vaal Orb effects.

Yeah you need Doryani institute for double corrupt if you want 21 and vaal. I think the thread covered it but the outcomes you can get from vaaling are +/- level, +/- qual, and vaal version if the gem has one (and no effect except corruption tag). Double corrupt is needed if you want any two of these outcomes.

You can get an extra level on your gem if it is not max level, but for it to have a chance to go to 21 it will need to be a 20 first to push it above the 20 cap. It is adding one to the current level of the gem, rather than adding one to the maximum possible level the gem can reach.
