Trials are Rediculous

Trials of Sekhema are impossible for melee. You see we wear all this armor stuff all over because we expect to get hit. We have to get in close and thus any trial that requires us to not get hit is not going to work. I have never failed that trial for life, ONLY because I "died" to honor. And to the "git gud" gamer gods, you do the second trial of the Sekhema run with a warrior and post the video on youtube. We would all love to see your godlyness.

Trials of Chaos are at least doable by melee but also rediculous. Just keep rolling until you draw the chimera. The bird that jumps into a half screen tornado and kills you instantly is really nearly impossible to beat, at least for a normie like me. Sorry I know some "gamer gods" out there will say "git gud" so you post to youtube how, with a melee char, you are point blank on the boss and he goes into tornado how you live. We will wait. But even if you actually manage to draw a doable boss and you get to the end, well my warrior got some PHAT LEWT .. namely a wand, a focus and a quarterstaff. Now if there is a clearer way to give a warrior a middle finger I dont know what it is.

GGG needs to go back to the drawing board.

Yup

I made it to the end.
2 floors
2 titan bosses , im melee , i took 2 hits and died.

Running like a headless chicken with my skill gems and inventory window open trying to remove the extra AOE damage off my skill gem so i can get back the 3 m of range on it .. so i can medium range attack .. mid fight.

I hate them more than i like the rest of the game.
So I reroll characters rather than do the trials.
I do the first set as i go to Cruel in the 40's. That way i just walk through the crap.

Allow me to improve the game.
You walk to temple of chaos.

And get a crisp high-five.
Boom done!

the only way to even attempt these is to over level but the honor mechanic makes it near impossible in Sanctum ... uh ... trials of Sekhema. When it comes to Ultimatum .... Uhh I mean Trials of Chaos, you cant even practice the boss because its a half hour run minimum between deaths. Not that it would matter when the boss spawns a half screen tornado and you are point blank and it kills you before your brain can even register it happened and get out. If you miraculously manage to get out, it chases you.

I just wonder how that design meeting went?

Sadist: "Hey for ascendancy lets get rid of the labrynth"
Everyone: "Yeah... but what will replace it?"
Sadist: "Lets choose the 3 most hated league mechanics and make them required"

If these are going to be the way to ascend they need a lot of rework.
Who the heck at GGG actually thought the majority of players would enjoy POE2's version of ascendancy trials? Ultimatum and Sanctum mechanics from POE1 are the most hated of any GGG has created and they intentionally gate critical character progression behind mechanics the community clearly hates. I won't even get into all the issues with the horrible RNG and mechanics that literally brick builds.

Fully agree.
The fact that so many people pay to be carried through the ascension trials proves the trials need to be changed dramatically.

To be fair, PoE community will still pay to be lazy no matter what the trials end up being.

I agree that the trials in the current form are a horrific way to earn ascendency points, I just wouldn't use the existence of the carry market as an indication of an issue.

In short, I do think the content to earn the points should be somewhat challenging and accessible to all builds, and that'll inevitably create a market for carries. Right now the content is not accessible to all builds and not just enabling carries but almost outright forcing them for some people.
+1 to pretty much all of this.

I stopped playing when I realized that Ascension was gated behind Sanctum, at level 22. Haven't touched the game since. I hated Sanctum (and Ultimatum) when they were Leagues, and I still hate them now.
I hated sanctum in PoE1 and never touched it so I was annoyed when it was core in PoE2 but just to add a few things.

I've been playing melee since the start and while I also thought this way at first when unlocking my ascendancies for the first time the Trial of Chaos and Sekhmas are now my primary div farming spots.

Trial of Chaos you can't really do anything about it besides getting endgame gear and building up a sufficient life pool, damage, defeneses, and move speed but the Sekmas isn't as hard as you think.

Relics are the core part of Trial of Sekhmas. First off you need 75% honor resist, with that even with 1500-2000 life or energy shield and no evasion you can clear through all 4 floors.

Going even further you can get things like 25% increased max life which not only gives you more life to tank hits it adds to your total honor you can get max honor % relics which increase honor further. If you use evasion and energy shield defenses % rolls increase energy shield, evasion, and total honor altogether.

On my monk I've hit almost 20k honor by the end and that's not even trying to max out on honor.

One of the biggest game changers for relics is merchants offer additional choices. The sooner you get 50% reduced merchant prices and additional sacred water, it quite literally snowballs until you end up with over 20 minor boons and 5-10 major boons. Traps disabled, affliction immunity, visibility of all rooms, revive on 0 honor, 40% move speed, almost 150% more damage in boons. Boons are the core to improving your experience in trial of sekhmas.

One thing I will add though is that I agree the early game trials could use some improvement. Maybe for the green quest version that gives you the ascendancy points if you hit 0 honor it sends you back to the start of that floor instead of having to restart the entire thing over. Repeating all previous floors over and over before getting relics was pretty tedious early on. Or maybe you just dont lose at 0 honor with the quest ones but can continue and just not get any rewards except for the ascendancy points.

Sekhema is damn easy as melee or ranged, if you actually learn how to do it correctly. Far easier than Trial of Chaos (at intended level).

Trial of Chaos needs some tuning for the quest version (it's fine later on, but at level 38 those mods are a bit much IMO) and I agree the tornado bird sucks (he needs to give a bit more warning so melee can react before he instantly kills you).
