Is GGG too tied to "mapping" at endgame? No innovation in PoE2 feels bad.

In PoE1, you complete the campaign and you start mapping which doesn't really have a story besides some generic fluff about cleansing the corruption in the Atlas because of elder evils. You clear generic, randomized tilesets to collect loot and eventually fight some pinnacle bosses with little in-game story reasoning. Yay. So exciting. PoE's endgame has largely been the same for years, with some added bosses here and there.

I would have expected PoE2 to have overhauled and innovated on the prior development, but it appears as though GGG deployed more of the same. Disappointing to say the least.
