the pain and struggle of leveling as a crossbow build is anoying
* reload speed - remove this , just a way to annoy people it shouldn't be a thing at all no in passive tree not in jewels just remove it . * many crossbow skills need a huge dmg buff * many skills have way too low ammo count the minimum should be at least 3-4 shots per skills (skills like High Velocity Rounds and so on ) *Quiver ? where is our Bolt bag ? why its not a thing ?where do u keep ur bolts? *many crossbow skill cant really use extra projes because there of the way extra proj interact whit the skills *crossbow skills dmg in skill ui is broken and not showing proper dmg *crossbow skills dont show dmg in skill ui at all while using a controller on pc . * "load an additional bolt " should be very very common proc in suffixes as it unables to use the skills that has low bolt count as High valocity rounds etc . way to fix the "reload" idea , make it scale entirely from atk speed (aspd )and remove the stat reload speeed from the tree and jewels also Reload speed can be fixed by adding a Bolt bag(quiver ) and adding this stat to this item entirely removing it from jewels and passive tree also a Bolt bag should have the option to roll "load additional bolt " in suffixes . *we need Bolt bag (QUIVER) IT will fix many problems for the crossbow builds Last edited by UnholyKirin#7925 on Feb 8, 2025, 5:53:23 AM Last bumped on Apr 11, 2025, 2:31:33 PM

I agree on most of the things here. I feel like a crossbow build is a lot about "spec into things that makes the crowwbow actually feelgood".
- I feel like crossbow reload speed has its place, but it should be a lot closer in the skill tree. THe fact that you have to wait until like lvl 30 to get some is very tiring. - The other problem with reload speed is that it feels mandatory to get as much as possible of it. - A way to mitigate the need for reload speed would be to have skills like high velocity round or fragmentation round have more bolts per load, as suggested in the post. - Also, the charge time on certain skills like rapid shot or galvanic shard has no place. I cannot express how bad it feels to have to wait 0.5 seconds before being able to shoot. Nerf their damage or attack speed a little if needed, but get rid of it. As a general note, i love the crossbow personnally. But i feel like a lot of features implemented to balance its power are more frustrating than anything. |

I think you might want to spend a little time thinking over your suggestions a little more carefully because they're internally inconsistent. Without the reload mechanic, all of your suggestions about bolt count are obviously irrelevant.
I would say at a glance you're just trying to play the Mercenary as if it was a Ranger. I could summarize your suggestions roughly by saying "Make Crossbows work like Bows and make Mercenary skills work like Ranger skills." " This is a statement that can be made about every class/primary weapon. You're just describing the core experience of PoE progression which is one of the things people love most about it. As someone who leveled as crossbows, they feel bad in act 1,and get consistently better as you level and get more attack speed. They could use some tuning early on, you're not wrong.

Instead of adding a quiver for crossbow i propose something more interesting, rework crossbows to be 1 hand weapons, and you need 2 to get its full potential
In 1 hand you can have a crossbow with an extra grenades implicit and the other one with an extra bolt for example, the reload mechanic wouldn't be so punishing since you could only shoot 1 at the time, but doing less dmg maybe some unique could allow shooting both at the same time, or an ascendancy that allows you to use a melee weapon like a sword or dagger in one hand and a 1h crossbow in the other |

My 1st class was merc and almost 1st xbow drop was raptor. When i changed it in act 2 or 3 i cant understood wtf happened with the game... I lvled all classes and never wanted play again with xbows. Btw if xbow need reload then bows need arrow like in d2, melee weapons need sharpener.

While there are some annoyances / quirks with crossbows certainly I didn't feel that leveling with them was soooooo bad -- probably because most of my prior characters were deliberately non-meta so by comparison the quirks weren't too bad by comparison :)
For me the issue was more finding skill rotations that seemed to work (with my admittedly poor understanding of the in-depth mechanics). I think I've got most rolls figured out but I still don't have a "feels good" boss killer rotation. I have something that I'm "getting by" with but I haven't found something I really vibe with yet for that role. |

The buffs in Crossbow damage was good but not enough to make the attack style equal balance with others. Indeed there are a lot to invest when playing with crossbow. Therefore Crossbow Relaod time is the safest to remove.
I said it before to another post that if Devs double the damage of crossbow as it be to all games from 1990, then Reload time wouldn't matter at all couse the damage will be enough to kill monster with 6-7 bolts. Don't forgets that with latest nerfs, Presence area was also reduced 33% to 4 metres and this is an additional cost for crossbow style. |
