How to Nerf Energy Shield

WHAT? WHAT THAT MADMAN IS TALKING ABOUT?!

Anyway...

The easiest way to do that is to Rearrange Layers of Defence

What we have now (number means step):

1 Preventing the hit - 2 Calculating unmitigated damage - 6 Damage mitigation - 12 Take damage


What I'm talking about:

1 Preventing the hit - 2 Calculating unmitigated damage - 5 Take damage on Energy Shield - 6 Damage mitigation - 12 Take damage on Life



And we don't even need to fix the insane numbers of the Energy Shield.

Just put life nodes back on the tree, removing them was a horrible mistake and now every build is "how am i going to fit ES/hybrid into this so im not walking around with 2.5k raw HP pool.

If you could get 4k life without massive strength stacking and life on every piece and/or having to run a 3 socket trial master shield i think pure armour/eva builds might actually not feel like shit.

IDK in what universe hybrid armour/eva would be usable in the current state, just remove those bases at this point. At least armor/es can work, and only because grimfeast exists as it does now.

No. Armor and Eva should provide raw Hp as an implicit bonus.

But still ES if insane powerful now. So that the way do deal with it and make game even more complicated.
Lowering (in your case destroying) the effectiveness of the only valid defense in the current state of endgame is what's madness to me. The difficulty is likely only going to increase as more mob types and modifiers are added.

A much better idea is to use ES as a baseline and bring everything else up to match. Grim feast may need some tweaking, but I see the lack in options/power for the other defenses as they problem here, not ES. Bring them up to snuff and you'll surely see an increase in build diversity.
ES isn't a requirement it's just easier and cheaper to stack than other methods.

ES is not broken, the problem are EV and ARMOR that are too shit and need buffs to keep up with ES
I've think what evasion needs are glancing blows.
Evade completely > glancing hit (based on evasion) > full hit > critical strike

Armor needs it's scaling changed such that it has more of an effect on larger hits. Maybe via tweaking existing passives to reach this goal. Maybe also look into having it help resist other elemental damage types

I don't think that armor should solve the problem of "crushing blows". If you get hit by a God, then no armor will save you (except Armor like a God). And this is normal.
At the same time, when you have so much Energy Shield that you can just survive such a blow - this is no longer normal. Accordingly, the cancellation of any protection for the Energy Shield other than the pool itself will weaken it by about 5 times. And it will completely change the approach to the build. And it will also raise interest in the "substrate" in the form of Health.

The problem is obviously that the Energy Shield is immutable. It works equally with all strokes. Whereas the armor seems to be disabled in boss fights. It is necessary not to change the coefficients, but to give the Armor something reliable, not changeable. As I say everywhere: the armor just needs to give you more Health at the same time.

But back to the topic, if you have 10,000 HP (there are even more Shields), then you will be just like in the case of a Shield - you don't care about everything. Therefore, the Shield of course must be nerfed. And the proposed method, although perhaps a little humorous, but not as crazy as it seems.
