poe2 how can I know which support gems work with what skills "before creating them"
I'm tired of wasting my skill gems. Last bumped on Feb 18, 2025, 2:20:29 PM

In the gem cutter page, select the skill you want a support gem for. Uncheck the little box at the bottom for recommended. All the support gems appear for that skill and not just the recommended ones.

" Note that while true, this is only true of gems which are *always* able to be socketed into the skill in question. Take for example Despair. If you try to socket in the support gem "Wildfire", it won't work. Makes sense, it doesn't hit enemies, doesn't cause ignite, wouldn't apply regardless. But if you socket in "Burning Inscription" first, which makes it so it creates burning ground after it triggers, and that burning ground Does hit enemies and ignite, suddenly "Wildfire" can be socketed in as well. However, in the list shown when unchecking "show recommended" it still will not show up. Gotta just go to "all gems", make it, and socket it in. This is compounded by the fact that not all gems which you would think should work based on such interactions actually do. For example again Wildfire can be socketed into a burning inscription Despair, but Fiery Death, which uses the exact same text ("Supports any skill that hits enemies"), does not work and cannot be socketed in. So I've found the singular best resource to be 100% sure is Maxroll.gg, the character planner for POE 2. In there you can select support gems from the list and if that enables additional gems to be socketed into the skill, they'll subsequently show up. Note that being able to be socketed doesn't guarantee it'll work how you want. You can socket "Lockdown" into the Burning Inscription Despair, but as it causes no base pin buildup it will literally do nothing. So some level of logic, testing, and / or putting it into PoB is required. But Maxroll will at least get you a lot closer, quickly and easily. |
