I agree that they have to improve visibility and layout of maps. Also, the lack of connection is annoying though it looks more like an technical issue than a game desing choice.

I don't have a problem with they "forcing" us to play other maps to progress in atlas as long as they are playable and you can have a couple paths you can chose. I don't think that allowing previous meta (setting atlas in a way that you can farm a specific type of map) is a good game design.

To add my opinion, Atlas is kinda weird when you think about it after playing thousand of maps, and you cannot figure out well where those specific points you left behind were. Like, if you want to save an Untainted Paradise for later, you will have troble to find it again if you atlas becomes too big.

I guess, it would be an improvement if they just use some Delve elements on Poe2 atlas, like the simple layout (2d), which could solve the connection problems and give us a point of reference (top on the screen is the start level in Delve). Also, the depth system could be implemented here, making the farther you progress vertically on atlas, the more rewarding, but also more dangerous, a map would be.
