Early Access Discussion - Does Xbox require Game Pass to play? - Forum

Final conclusion: Im going to say Yes you need game pass. Generally from what I saw online free games do not require game pass(Like POE2). However since Early Access is not free at the moment a game pass will be required until official release. If you find out if you need/do not need one please let me know. You could see how it can be confusing to have both Xbox say Game pass required and GGG saying it. Website is down. I ended up buying EA on the website because I swear they never said otherwise and neither did the website. I then had to buy it again through the Xbox store and wait around a month for a refund.
