Expedition is not an expedition

Why are we blowing up the ground and monsters come out? This is dumb. How about we go on actual expedition?

You talk to an NPC and you're given the option to go on an actual expedition; an adventure to a mysterious, uncharted region. You only have enough room to bring so much cargo with you, and you pick and choose what cargo you want to bring:

• Food which you need to eat to restore a stamina bar that goes down the longer you spend on the adventure (when it runs out, the expedition ends).
• Torches, to illuminate dark caves, ruins, etc. in the zone that are extremely hard to visually navigate without.
• Explosives to clear debris and rubble that blocks doors and passageways in the zone.
• Ropes to climb up and down different obstacles in the zone.
• Shovels to dig up buried treasure that are plotted randomly throughout the map.
• Pickaxes to expose precious gems from mineral nodes/statues, etc.

You go to a large, randomly generated area full of monsters and scattered throughout, there's random caves, ruins, statues, temples, etc. point of interest, with traps, other treasure hunters, etc. All random, you never know what you're going to get.

You go around looking for as much treasure as you can before your stamina ends (or you die). You exchange your treasure for something to make your expeditions more bountiful and efficient, maybe trinkets that improve magic find, more effective food, or tools that take up less cargo space, torches that last longer, etc. On your expeditions you can find treasure maps or something that unlock special expeditions, that are longer, more challenging, and more rewarding. It's basically a survival scavenger hunt.
