Imprisoned Essence Event: Exploding Mob Rare

This started while I was following a wisp that led me across the map.
The wisp found an an Imprisoned Essence Event site and possessed the dormant Rare Mob.

I started the event and less than a second later before I could even attack, the Rare mob was dead having instantly exploded once freed.
The Rare mob was one of those monsters that run at you while glowing and explode.
Because you start the event in melee range of the Rare it instantly exploded and all loot was lost.
