Improving the Multiplayer Experience in Path of Exile 2
Hey everyone,
After spending a good amount of time playing Path of Exile 2 with friends, I wanted to share some feedback and suggestions on how the multiplayer aspect could be improved. Right now, it doesn’t feel like a true co-op experience — more like one person progressing while others just help out. Here's a breakdown of what I think could make multiplayer feel more rewarding and collaborative, especially for smaller groups and guilds. 1. Lack of Meaningful Co-Op Progression Multiplayer in PoE2 often feels one-sided. Usually, one player (typically the host) is the only one progressing through the Atlas, unlocking passives, and pushing their content, while everyone else is just along for the ride. This setup makes co-op feel like a support role rather than a shared journey. There needs to be a way for all party members to feel like they’re advancing when playing together — whether that’s through Atlas progress, quest completion, or access to content. 2. Shared Progression via Guild Atlas Option A great solution could be an optional system that allows guild members to activate a shared Guild Atlas. When two or more players from the same guild are in a party, they could press a button to toggle Guild Progression Mode. In this mode: Maps contribute to a shared Guild Atlas Tree Atlas passives and progression are shared and built collaboratively Players can still play solo on their personal Atlas when they want — this system would be fully opt-in This would give small groups a way to truly progress together, without sacrificing solo flexibility. 3. Make Guilds More Impactful for Small Groups Currently, guilds feel more like a social tag than a gameplay system. Tying in meaningful multiplayer progression would give guilds real weight, especially for smaller friend groups. With a Guild Atlas Tree system: Guilds could make long-term co-op progression plans Map goals and passive choices would become collaborative Players could seamlessly switch between solo and co-op play without missing out This would turn guilds into a foundational multiplayer system, rather than just a stash-sharing feature. 4. Transparency Around Party Scaling Multiplayer scaling in PoE2 exists, but it’s not clear how it works. When playing in a group, we don’t really know: How much more health enemies have How loot quantity or rarity changes How XP is being distributed Adding a clear tooltip or info panel when entering a map that explains the current scaling modifiers would help a lot. It gives players the ability to plan builds and playstyles around group scaling instead of guessing. 5. Ultimatum Vote Mechanic for Groups Right now, only the activating player gets to decide whether to continue or end an Ultimatum. This can feel frustrating or chaotic in a party setting. Adding a vote mechanic where party members choose whether to continue or take the reward would solve this. A quick majority vote with a short timer ensures that decisions reflect the group’s intent, not just one person’s risk appetite. Final Thoughts Path of Exile 2 has so much potential to become one of the best co-op ARPGs out there. These ideas are aimed at making multiplayer feel more collaborative, rewarding, and strategic — especially for small groups and guilds who want to experience the game together. I’d love to hear what others think — if you group up often or play with a consistent crew, what’s your take? Let’s make PoE2’s multiplayer shine. Last bumped on May 15, 2025, 11:40:45 PM
