Make Uniques more interesting by interacting with eachother

Since most of the unique items in the game are overall worse than a well-rolled rare item, I'm thinking there's an opportunity to be had here by making them act as "set items", giving the player extra bonuses when multiple unique items of the same type are equipped.

Example1: Unique EV boots grant you 5% extra movement speed for every other EV unique item equipped.

Example2: Unique sword grants you 5% extra attack speed for every other unique item equipped that gives you a speed modifier.

Example3: Unique armor chest piece grants you 10% extra physical damage reduction for every other equipped unique item that gives you armor.

And the list could go on forever, the possibilities are endless..
This way the low-level unique item drops could be adjusted to have less drop chance but make them way more exciting to find.
It could also open the road to many more end-game builds based solely on unique items and their interactions!

I'm not sure whether you know, but that has been expressed as a deliberate design goal of GGG's since the start. If Uniques were flatly superior to Rares D3-style, rares would cease to matter. And by their nature - you'd get the 'right' one for a slot, and then only the exact same item could possibly be an upgrade. GGG's designers don't consider this to be an example of good game design.
ABSOLUTELY F**KING NOT.

Set items were the single worst idea ever introduced to ARPGs.
there are tons of unique-only endgame builds out there.

You just need to look BELOW the mirror class

Its fairly common for the majority of league starters and secondary characters to use mostly or fully unique items that can be bought with 1c after the first week of the game and complete nearly all content.

Chill down guys, I'm not suggesting making uniques best-in-slot.
My idea was to make low level uniques more exciting to find early on and not be as useless as they currently are, the majority. I just don't see the point in having so many uniques in the game if they're useless and aren't worth 1c.
My take on uniques is that they should be divided into 3 categories

build enablers: low tier uniques with special mods that enable new builds or interactions like its the case of pillar of the caged god

min/max: high tier uniques with a very powerfull mod at the cost of everything else like its the case of kaoms heart

place holders: mid-high tier uniques powerfull enought to be usable in end-game but not as strong as a well rolled rare, Just something to use untill one can craft a good rare.

problem is a lot of uniques don't fall into neither of this categories so they are doomed to be useless.

you know what could be potentially cool? What if they create a whole assortment of unique mods (similar to glove lab enchants of old), and stick one on every single unique item. Or even have them be randomly assigned to unique drops.

Not EXACTLY the same as the old glove enchants, but similarly powered and interesting ideas.

It'd be pretty cool to have some commandments flying around again.

I don't see why this wouldn't work but if there were enough "sets" that were inferior to say higher uniques or well crafted rares they would become some type of meta for leveling or something
