since they can give benefits that otherwise would be have on the other side of the passive tree.

example occultist chaos build that otherwise would have hard time get like ignore enemy physical resistance, can so all time ignore physical resistance by socketing multiple jewellery with that same perk onto the passive tree. as example more function for different setups also exist.

and yes an occultist need both physical and spell damage since their spells scale on both

Or you can take an elder weapon with conversion suffix and forget about ignoring PDR. If it's the void sphere we're talking about, ofc.
