Disconnects aside, I fucking hate the mercenary mechanic

Their OPness aside - the game is simply not designed for 1 vs 1 fights outside of an arena. Hey look, random syndicate members are coming, and other map monsters decide to appear and join in. Just the act of clearing a good portion of the map in order to have a fair fight and still getting interrupted pisses me off. Having one chance only makes everything that much worse.

I really hope this is not implemented into the base game. Update rogue exiles if you want to, not this

If Kingsmarch was added last time, there's no doubt they wouldn't throw mercenaries into the basegame too. It's dizzying with the amount of crap GGG wants to bloat the game with.
I'm still pissed off about the fact that, after all these years, we still cannot block Betrayal. I fucking hate being randomly ambushed while trying to run super rippy maps at lvl +97. It's one of the reasons why I now run Block whenever I can.

As for the Mercs, for me it's on the contrary. I love the mechanic itself, just not how we go about hiring them. The Mercs, while (for now) mainly being used as pseudo stat sticks, are great for complimenting/off-setting your build.

For example, I am currently playing Scorching Ray Totems. Boss DPS is great, but even with near max Cast Speed, the clear is pretty meh. I use a Merc that can freeze with her Flameblast (using Expedition's End, which allows all damage to freeze). She takes care of the clear, while also providing additional safety for me in the form of Freeze, and also enemy regen reduction (Eater of Worlds helmet implicit).

If people would stop using them as stat sticks only, we would see a much greater variety of them. They 100% need to go core. For reasons more than one. They also give you something else to gear when your character is mostly done. Honestly, brilliant addition overall.

The 1v1 duel is such a minor part of the mercenary mechanic and its completely optional. Intervention Syndicate ambushes are easy as hell to predict, its always the first inconvenient time of each map so its easy/quick to get out of the way. I dont see the duel being a good reason to throw it away.

I like them because they encourage me to learn other playstyles, ive never used melee or a bow and never learned how to gear those types of builds. Now I have a reason to with animated guardian #2.

Favorite guy so far is one that speaks gibberish and uses flicker strike.
