Controlling Both Characters in Local Co-op

I stumbled across this reddit post about playing local co-op as one person with two controllers. I'm curious what the limitations are on this?

It's my understanding that input mirroring is a bannable offense, but is controlling multiple characters fine as long as they use different physcial inputs for each action?

One such example where I feel this idea gets muddled would be using one hand to control two joysticks, or two separate buttons being pressed by a single finger to initiate actions for both characters at the same time. I'm curious what the rules are on this kind of setup?
