Area contains 5 additional abysses BUG
Hello there. On the Dune map, while playing the Abyss mechanics, I think I've encountered a bug a few times. In short, the number of Abysses is often smaller than it should be. In my case, it should contain five additional Abysses, but there are three or four. Five also appear, but rarely. They're probably hiding somewhere under the textures, hehe, because there can't be fewer of them than there should be, right? number report 2487040695

This is a long-known issue, with many maps/zones.
I'm not saying it's not a bug, or shouldn't be fixed, just that it's been known for a long time. The community understanding (may be flawed) is that each zone has a certain number of spots where mechanics can spawn. Different mechanics have different limitations. Some, like strongboxes, have many possible spawn points in every map. Others, like say Legion Monoliths, have fewer points. Some mechanics are allowed to overlap and others are not. For example, a breach and a legion monolith can spawn on the same point. I believe Abysses are completely exclusive (can't co-spawn with any other mechanic), although I'm not 100% sure of that. In any case, if too many spawn points are filled with other things, you may not get all of your Abysses. If the number is very high, there might not even need to be other mechanics for all the points to be used. Most maps don't have a fixed layout, so some versions of them may spawn with fewer points. I think Dunes is most frequently noticed because of a combination of the popularity of the map with the small number of variations, most or all of which have a relatively small number of spawn points. Some other layouts (nearly) always spawn the full number of abysses, even when it's a large number. Do note that this is not only an Abyss issue, it also happens with Legion and several other mechanics. I'll repeat, this is based on community knowledge, which, AFAIK, GGG has never confirmed, so it's possible it's wrong. But the issue has been around more or less forever, so I wouldn't expect a fix anytime soon. | |
" Thank you for the answer, I didn't know about this problem, I will test it what you wrote, maybe removing e.g. red/blue altars or other mechanics from the atlas will help me, free up space available for abyss |

" AFAIK, Altars don't count, because they spawn from killing mobs, rather than in a fixed location. Just speculation though. The biggest culprits are "large" encounters, like Legion and Blight (and Abyss). |
