Game feedback: The game is mechanically simplistic
|
Path of Exile 2 is mechanically simplistic. This is a great RPG but a poor Action Game. This leads to melee being merely ranged being played at a worse positioning. Other than the challenge, there is no reason or flavour or unique strengths and dynamics the melee playstyle enables that ranged doesn't. Just increasing the numbers will not work to fix this, nor making "combos" comboer.
Save for some bosses, monsters, too, are basic with the exception of rares. The AI has not surprised me, few rare monsters posed a challenge. By the time you hit level 90, pinnacles can be trivialized - which is a shame for the fights are actually well designed! The game is difficult enough but not challenging enough. Increasing numbers will not make it more challenging, just more difficult. Finishing a build is more satisfying than playing said build even if it is a "comfy build" (ranged, high Movement Speed, Aoe, option for high single target damage and tanky). Dev gives too much power to items, whenever I meet a wall I immediately think about upgrading or changing my gears, not about what should I do in term of mechanics (endgame is still you either kill the enemy in 10s or you gonna have a real bad time). The game is full of contradiction, some skills require CD, duration or synergy to activate while enemies zooming to you at the speed of sound. I wonder what direction dev want us to go in endgame, to zoom or not to zoom?

" The most fun I had in Maps was fighting Olroth while severely undergeared (offensively). It was T1 Olroth so infinite retries. I could deal damage but not much, i had to manage my flask and learn the attacks. I nicknamed the boomerang sword "Flask tax" because i never figured the timing to evade it and after retrying for hours I was surprised by a phase 2. I learned the fight and managed to beat him. Then, realizing i was undergeared, I bought a better crossbow for 2ex. The T2 fight became trivial. I'm not against people brute forcing the game because racers are the first to provide chase items from bosses and they can't wait to just get better gear, this is a valid gameplay niche. But it dawned on me that I spent most of time mapping without the need to learn a single thing, i wasn't engaging the enemies, i was deleting them. I can Count the number of rares i had to actually evade, kite and play a bit more strategically. Last edited by Ablan#1306 on Oct 11, 2025, 9:20:42 AM

I honestly like the no zoom, combo playstyle. It's not like you physically can't play this way. When I nerfed myself, I was kiting mobs while comboing. This means I wasn't always advancing in one direction but circling and backtracking towards the start of the map because I was being overrun. Positioning is part of a challenge and I'm all for it. We know GGG won't move in this direction though. The majority came to PoE2 for PoE1 with fresh paint.
I only play SSF and it is my duty as one to inform you of my status.

If you make pulling the crank too difficult and complex, then people won't enjoy constantly pull it, and the slot machine will rarely be used.
In other words, the mechanics are simple because this game is a skinner box with action elements. You're trying to treat a slot machine, like an obstacle course. They aren't the same thing. |

Mechanics only bosses.
Traps and projectiles on mapping. Poe2 is like R-TYPE Mechanics. |

" Ranged and melee combat are extremely unbalanced and treated differently. There's no reason to play melee weapons unless you have a specific build, and the experience is terrible. The interaction cost GGG wants with bosses is too high. One mistake means death, and there's no real experience. I suspect these moves were designed solely to annoy players. So, to avoid being annoyed, people naturally choose high-damage builds, skipping boss interaction, making the game much easier after level 90. The comfort build is probably what GGG doesn't want. They only focus on skill interactions, so the comfort build is an unbalanced or overpriced product. Another reason is that the balance is terrible. Some high-value items give too much, exploding the damage and making the game easier. Gear in version 0.3 is also very easy to make, allowing for faster completion, easier gameplay, and faster exits. Of course, this might be a good thing for players. Last edited by ken25698#9527 on Oct 12, 2025, 1:38:57 PM

" It has been stated clearly enough that PoE2 is supposed to be a different game for a different audience. Anyone playing 2 wanting 1 with new paint is playing the wrong game. They should still be playing 1. |
