Cannot take part in POE2 early access with supporters key from friend

My friend recently bought a supporters pack and got 2 keys to invite some friends over for the early access. These were steam keys, I used the key in steam to get the game, download it, and launch it. In-game it told me that I hadn't bought the game and needed to either buy it or unlock it via a key. I tried to paste the key in redeem here on the website and didnt work, my steam is linked to my account and I don't know what's wrong
