Fire Penetration II + Leopold's Applause

Does anyone know how these two work? Would fire penetration II support nullify Leopold's effect and keep the monster's resistance at zero?

Fire Pen II would nullify the effect of Leopolds, but only for fire damage, and only for the skill it's socketed into.
