D3D11Create Device: Unknown Error

Hello,

I'm getting the above error frequently, but only in the new league.

Device name TBWLBWLaptop
Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H (2.30 GHz)
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)
Device ID E9FE12A1-BF22-423D-964D-5B390FEC3389
Product ID 00342-20868-61928-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch Touch support with 10 touch points

All drivers are up to date. I'm fairly computer illiterate, so hopefully there's a simple solution. Doesn't matter if I use DirectX12, 11, or Vulcan.

Hey,

Could you post a link to a DxDiag on Pastebin?

OK. I think I did this right. Sorry for delay. I had a medical procedure.

I'm sorry to hear that. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

There is something quite disastrously wrong with your Intel Arc A370M's driver.

Let's run through snippets of the DxDiag (thanks for posting it, btw);

"
Device Status: 01802400 [DN_HAS_PROBLEM|DN_DISABLEABLE|DN_NT_ENUMERATOR|DN_NT_DRIVER]

My own DxDiag says the following;

"Device Status: 0180200A [DN_DRIVER_LOADED|DN_STARTED|DN_DISABLEABLE|DN_NT_ENUMERATOR|DN_NT_DRIVER]"

As we can see - where mine is logged as having a status of "Loaded" and "Started", yours has a far less reassuring status of "Has Problem" - and doesn't claim to have been loaded at all.

"
Device Problem Code: 00000016 [CM_PROB_DISABLED]]

Compared with my own DxDiag;

"Device Problem Code: No Problem"

Code 22 / CM_PROB_DISABLED indicates a disabled device - most commonly the result of a troubled driver.

"
D3D Status: Not Available

Compared with mine;

"D3D Status: Enabled"

This appears to back up the Path of Exile error message. The DirectX Diagnostic Utility ("DxDiag") is unable to query the GPU to establish its status, suggesting the driver failed to initialise and your laptop is just running on your i7 12700H CPU's integrated Iris Xe Graphics.

"
Display Memory: Unknown
Dedicated Memory: n/a
Shared Memory: n/a

Compared with my present device's;

"Display Memory: 24344 MB
Dedicated Memory: 8003 MB
Shared Memory: 16341 MB"

The DxDiag section is replete with examples of the utility having failed to fetch data pertaining to your discrete Intel Arc A370M GPU. These fields show that it doesn't even know much VRAM your card has - which points to, essentially, a total failure to interact with the device at all.

I think the best thing to do would be to download the installer for your Intel Arc A370M's driver - and to move it somewhere very easy to find, such as your Desktop. Then to download and run Display Driver Uninstaller ("DDU") to completely remove any partially installed, corrupted, or otherwise troubled Intel display drivers currently on your system. Then to reboot, and finally install the driver you downloaded and moved to your Desktop.

The reason we move it to your Desktop is that, while your system is running using a Microsoft Basic Display Driver, the resolution might be wrong - so your system will look weird, and it may be difficult to navigate around your system. You want the shortcut for the driver's installer to be fairly close to the top-left corner of your Desktop so it will be easy to find.

I know you expressed a little unease with technical stuff in your first post. If you're a bit worried about the complexity of the above, and if there isn't anyone else who could help, then you could just try a fresh install of your Intel Arc A370M's driver and hope for the best. It's definitely less likely to resolve the problem - but it could do so, and perhaps you'd rather start there?

About 12 hours with no issues, so I think that worked!

Thanks so much. Not only did you tell me what was needed, you taught me how to fish!
