trials

i'd like to preface by saying i have a great deal of appreciation for a lot of the game, although i strongly dislike endgame (don't need to go into the details i'm sure you guys already know the reasons why endgame feels so wrong and different than the rest of the experience) i had an absolutely great time running through the campaign twice now, had mild fun in the early endgame and overall had enough appreciation for the game that i decided to upgrade my supporter pack.
the reason i'm saying this is I want to convey the fact that i'm not some 16 yo rage posting.

However Trials have to be THE worst take on the roguelite formula i've seen, coming from someone that has played a good number of roguelikes/lites.
if luck isn't on your side you just get slammed by extremely potent curses over and over with very little to no options to mitigate RNG in content that's already tough to take on, the endless curse/affliction RNG layers are simply too much to add on top of the already challenging content and make the experience super frustrating if you don't run some OP and/or super geared build that can allow you to bypass the RNG, especially when there are major gameplay elements locked behind these, including ascendancy change !!!!

now there seems to be some amount of people claiming they like trials on various forums, but funnily enough i really haven't seen that much such people in game (including the guild i'm in that was very active with lots of peops earlier in the season), quite the opposite, what i get from the large majority is that they hate it too. steam reviews seem to paint that same picture.
I believe removing ascendancy related stuff from the current trials is pretty urgent and should be top priority, people that want to run it for the loot and for the funsies if they truly enjoy it still could, but i really think it shouldn't be mandatory to drive yourself up the walls with a mode that feels quite far removed from the rest of the game, and is frankly horribly designed.

I believe people would be okay to run these same trials without the roguelite elements, i think there's something to be done with specific trials tokens allowing you to rerun them until completion (like the first one you get during campaign) that would have you run the exact same trials, but without the curses/afflictions nor boons. then the ascendancy change function could be entirely dissociated from trials or some repeatable "roguelite less" token specifically for it but you get no loot from it, so that it couldn't be farmed for goodies.
all of this while keeping the regular trials token drops that would have you run the same roguelite trials we have now, for those willing to engage with it.

i'd simply like to clarify again that i'm not trying to hate on the game nor the team, i think most of the game is pretty amazing, but i believe that current trials are a major pain point for most while it looks like fixing the issue wouldn't require nearly as much work as some of the other stuff that would require fixing, so from where i stand it seems to make sense to make it a priority.
