Crashes due to monster spawns.

I'm crashing very often. It seems to occur when monsters spawn, such as when a harvest crop pops, or during waves of a hive fortress. I have lost about 6 hive fortresses due to crashing around wave 22. This is on Steam after a fresh Windows installation and all drivers updated. Please help me resolve this issue.
