Damage details & tooltips are bugged or something?

I'm trying to see what skills are affected by passives with "increase attack area damage" because Crossbow Shot has "AoE" in the tags so I assume it would but when I hover over it and hold SHIFT it just says "No skills affected" ??? Really? Not even galv shards or any of my grenades? That doesn't sound right...

Then if I hover over "projectile damage" it won't show some skills like high velocity rounds?

If I hover "grenade damage" my grenades don't even show up??

So how the heck am I supposed to tell what affects what if the tooltips are all bugged to hell unless I just guess correctly from intuition and looking at tags or learning from people in the community?

Pretty sure lots of displayed information is bugged right now yes.
I can't say anything about the examples you mentioned, but i've had plenty of clearly bugged cases myself. It's an absolute mess right now tbh

Almost everything is beyond salvage.

You cannot really tell what affects your skills.

PoB is better, compared to the game itself, and it has been a year now when GGG won't fix it.

But even in PoB you still need to fine tune it to see your actual damage.

And this takes some time even if you know what you are actually doing.

Unfortunately this won't be changing any time soon. So I suggest you start learning how PoB works.
I don't want to interrupt the flow of a good feedback thread but I've to say that here because I think it is related to this topic; when you check the secondary or third page of any skill and replace any support gem on this skill the UI resets to the first page, which makes me so mad. I think this is a tiny process hierarchy error in their UI code and it's so annoying.

I hope we all don't think just because it's been broken for so long already doesn't mean that developers owe it to the players for this to work in the first place. I use two support gems that don't add any damage to my DPS as displayed in game because they only trigger intermittently. That's the kind of thing that throws off new players too much to let it slide forever.

Look if you want to compare games of complexity compare this to something like Eve Online and imagine how easy it would be to find a tool that showed you your real DPS without fiddling with it. Not to mention a game of that caliber I would expect to show your real DPS in game and only need third-party tools to see special things like DPS versus specific opponents resistance profiles.
