Survey, feedback, and suggestions: Why do players play the game? Why do you play the game?

I would be interested to know what the main reasons are why you play the game and what the main reasons are why players play the game, i.e. what are the main points and main reasons that the majority of players share.

For my part, I mainly play the game because of the base game. A new league comes second, although I would probably never play standard, but rather focus on the economic reset. And only in third place comes the new league mechanics of a new league, which I sometimes ignore completely.

For me, it's mainly about grinding, and I could just play Diablo 2, which is an absolutely fantastic grind game, but the problem with D2 is that I've practically finished the game, because it's so easy to get the perfect gear very quickly, and that's the difference between it and PoE1.
In PoE1, you can invest practically an infinite amount of currency in a lot of builds, so it's worth continuing to grind.


It's also because it offers the opportunity to perfect the grind, because you can play and farm more and more efficiently, and perfecting the gear, into which you can invest an infinite amount of currency, perfects the grind and farm on top of that.

And in the end, it's all about improvement, getting a few more mirrors in each league or whatever the current maximum is that you've achieved so far.
I also started small and am only average. Back then, I just didn't understand how to play the game lol :D

I like to struggle and PoE1 gives a lot shit on you to have this feeling. But there's line, and new breach and T17 cross this line when it's just not struggle buy annoyance. So answering why I play? Because it's kind of habit, the game is very stale right now and we need stop destroying good mechanic with dogshit ones, or removing strats and aspirational content from the game overall.

I like to make new builds. I can spend hours in Path of Building to map out what works well for me. Sometimes I do look at what other people made, but it's always only a starting point for my own creativity. And then it's about the feeling of getting more and more powerful and doing more and more challenging content, and just optimize everything you can.

Sometimes I do skip the league mechanic if I don't like it. Personally, I didn't like Sanctum, so I almost completely skipped that. Most league mechanics are fun though, and it's a big part of why I come back every league. But what I'm always really looking forward to in a new league is new items and skill/ascendancy changes to make fun new builds.

Personally, with all the QoL changed this league, I think POE is in a better state than it ever was. I also like the league mechanic; though it could be a little more rewarding.

I love totems, that's all.

I like ARPG's. I'm already established here, and PoE is free to play. So, when I need to kill demons, I play this. I love the complexity and the time I spend theorycrafting or looking up mechanics almost as much as playing the game itself. I play leagues to see what GGG does with game design, because a lot of them have been fun and because I like building a new character and developing it at every stage through to endgame. I like getting the league challenge reward mtx's because they feel more earned to me than the ones I could buy in the shop.

I like being OP in games, and ARPGs are fun for this purpose. Also I play for the free MTX every league.

For that reason I loved lantern + allflames, so many weird and fun combos.

My PC already has trouble with blighted maps. But since most of the work is done by the towers and when the skill does its job on its own, such as Penance Brand of Dissipation, it's less of a problem for me.
