added damage for spells
|
may be i am missing something but was looking around the wiki for flat damage sources for spells and everything seems to be for lightning or chaos and the few sources for physical and fire seem awfully weak compare to the likes of archmage, arcane cloak, manastorm...
i mean look at the scales of justice unique (3-4) to (7-8) added Fire Damage per 100 of Maximum Life or Maximum Mana whichever is lower. asuming 5000 life and mana that is 200-400 added Fire Damage for the same mana manastorm will give on average over 1k lightning. may be give anger aura better scaling say: from "You and nearby allies deal (16-109) to (23-155) additional Fire Damage with Spells" to: You and nearby allies deal 1-2 additional Fire Damage with Spells for every 20 life or mana reserved by this aura. Well....yea....but Manastorm is an entirely different mechanic with a HUGE downside that you need to compensate for across your entire build.
Not to mention where you find the two shields is wildly different content, the variation in manastorm is MUCH worse than scales, and scales offers defense, and potential double immunity while manastorm yields zero defense, even actively hampering any defense you would have in a character that utilizes it. How can you possibly compare the two? Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Dec 13, 2025, 7:48:53 PM

" there will never be a perfect comparison but the power gap is way to much to ignore. Even arcane cloak gives more damage while also providing extra defence and leaving the shield slot free. |

"perfect"....sure.....but you can't just IGNORE basically everything, when nothing in PoE acts in isolation. This is especially true of comparing items together and only focusing on ONE line out of....6+
Even if you compared other sources of flat fire to sources of flat fire....they'd vary wildly. Because the other stuff is important. That aside....everyone knows Arcane Cloak and Archmage are still imbalanced and incredibly powerful together, but your comparisons do nothing to HIGHLIGHT that particular issue. It's similar to the age-old ES argument. But you will drive yourself absolutely crazy for no real reason if you make comparisons the way you did. It will also obfuscate the TRUE issue, in this case "mana stacking" and the fact that arcane cloak and archmage perform TOO well in a mana stacker compared to any other possible option. Archmage should not be lightning damage: it should be the flat damage type of the spell it is supporting. Arcane Cloak could remain as lightning.
