Shutdown problem and only happened when playing PoE.
|
My PC unexpected completely shutdown frequently when I play PoE recent day.
It always happened in 10 min when I start playing PoE. It even happened on logging screen some times. It's weird that I can't reproduce the same issue by other methods. FurMark burn GPU 1hr -> nothing happened. Aida64 stress test CPU, GPU, RAM at the same time for 2hr -> nothing happened. memtest86 full test RAM 21hr -> nothing happened. Played Silent Hill 2 remake 1hr -> nothing happened. Use PC normally all day long -> nothing happened. Playing PoE -> shutdown, shutdown, shutdown always. (It worked well just few days ago) Anyone can tell me what is going on? I've updated all drivers. My PC spec: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX A-Data AX5U6000C3032G-BLABBK 32GBx4 AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (2 GB) NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (12282 MB) Last bumped on Feb 7, 2026, 11:20:19 PM

The first thing to check for would be high temperatures of your CPU or GPU.
The free version of HWMonitor is one suitable way of monitoring those; https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.61.exe In addition - what's the manufacturer & model of your Power Supply Unit? Having spent thousands of euros on Path of Exile over the years, I will not be further supporting it financially until and unless GGG resumes offering Technical Support.

I've done stress test for 2 hr but nothing happened. I've also play silent hill 2 remark for 1 hr, it's ok. But It always shutdown in 10 min when I run PoE. Even if I just stand in hideout or in log in screen.
I don't think it is temperature or power supply problems or it should happen in stress test since it happened so frequently in PoE. My power supply: MSI MAG A750GL PCIE5 750W |

" A six-digit number of people have played PoE 1 across the Steam, standalone, and Epic Games Store clients on PC in the last 24 hours. I understand that the issue is frustrating - and I understand it is not broadly reproducible for you. But please understand there aren't tens of thousands of people posting about this problem. There are, as far as I can see, two people posting about it. That's not what game client issues look like. It's what PC problems look like. My PC just shutdown right at the GGG intro logo when I launched the game. This is so weird—why does this only happen with PoE?Why is it happening so frequently but I can't reproduce the same issue with any other games or programs, even if with stress or burning tests?
It honestly feels like an invisible person is standing next to me, pulling the plug when he see me playing PoE every time. Does anyone have any guesses as to what might be causing this? Last edited by smtad#6581 on Feb 4, 2026, 11:40:31 AM

" GGG wrote their own game engine, and do their own coding which is unlike anyone else's. If there is the slightest problem with any hardware (PSU first comes to mind), then PoE will find it before any stress-testing program. It is what it is. Others have had the same happen before, and it has always been a hardware issue, usually PSU. 😹😹😹😹😹

First thing to check is always the power supply.
Check you GPU power draw during a gpu stress test then add your CPU steady power draw during cpu stress test, multiply the result by 1.5 Your PSU should be rated for that value if it's a "good" PSU or x2 of that value if you've bought some "random" unit. for a psu rating you may google for "SPL's PSU Tier List" spreadsheet. |

I think I'd found the cause of the shutdown issue.
After I open my PC case and clean cat hair inside it, shutdown never happened again. My cat is 7 years old. This is the first time something like this has ever happened. |

" Shutdown due to overheating Path of Furball! Dust and fur often gets overlooked, good to hear that it is OK now. 😹😹😹😹😹

It seems cat fur cause some kind of short on motherboard not overheat.
There were just very few fur on the motherboard and after I using vacuum to clean all fur, everything is fine. |
