General Price Check Discussion: Insane Magic (blue) Items

Wanted to discuss general value of magic items, and whether there is a subconscious bias against them. We're sort of trained to think "blue = meh" "rare = good" and this seems to persist even when a blue item is more powerful than a rare.

So last week, i found this wand which dropped in a 72 map off a rare:



Just with those two mods, it's better than most of the rare wands for sale right now. When I last looked, there were no wands for sale, period, that matched or exceeded that combination of spell dmg/cast speed. There were a couple other wands with 20+ cast speed, but none over 30-40 spell damage or so.

That said, it seems it being blue is keeping people away from making offers. I feel like if it was rare and had 3 other useless mods (like most caster wands that will have stuff like added ele dmg, attack speed, etc.) then psychologically, people would think it was better. My feeling is that there is something about a blue item that turns people off and they don't look at it from a fully rational perspective. The reality is an item with two perfect mods and zero wasted mods should be valued more than an item with 2 perfect mods and 4 wasted and/or mediocre mods, since the former has huge potential to become something truly amazing.

Perhaps it's the thought that "if i wanted a two-mod wand like that, I'd alt it myself" ? This seems to ignore how rare it is to get such a combination, I've id'd every highish ilvl blue wand for months now, never had anything close to this. The top and 2nd-highest spell dmg mods are just insanely rare, it seems, and on wands it's worse since they can roll attack mods. I've also used 100's of alts attempting to craft such a wand, again, never seen anything close (best was 18% cast speed 52% spell dmg).

Would be interested in other thoughts, and if perhaps I'm missing something which explains the lack of interest (one thought was that people looking for a GG wand will just get void battery, which leaves buyers looking for temporary wands).
