If you have a PS3
You should be playing Demons Souls. Probably the best game on the PS3 and one of the best rpg's I've ever played.
Just in case you need a way to pass the time until the open beta... "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

I've heard a lot of positive voices about it, watched some gameplay videos and I wonder what it's all about?
Looks like generic hack and slash in fpp mode :F Why it's so awesome, enlighten me plz :> | |
Well, It's awesome because...
A. The game doesn't hold your hand at all, it is unforgiving and relentless. B. The game, while not a completely open world, allows the player to choose roughly how they will go about finishing the game. C. Lots of different weapons, that actually affect how you play the game. D. Deep combat system, requires you to actually learn the enemies movements and attack patters in order to win, every enemy can kill you if you aren't careful. E. Rewards exploration. F. different classes, all of which are viable and dramatically affect how you go about playing the game. G. Unique leveling system and crafting system. I could go on, but honestly... its like 15 bucks now used and it's totally awesome. Wait, I forgot the best part. The game, while not really a multiplayer game does allow for online player interaction through a unique system. You can invade other players worlds, and kill them, and if you manage to do that you collect all of the souls (game currency) that the player you killed had at the moment of their death. You can also join someone elses game and help them beat a boss or defeat someone who has invaded there world. Also, the game world itself has a "tendency" which fluctuates between light and dark depending on your choices and other things. When the world is in a white tendency some things, options, npc's will be available, but they won't be if the world tendency is black and vice-versa. "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

That game does look like a ton of fun. I would play it if I could. I would also play heavy rain. That game looks amazing.

Imported Demon's Souls like 2 years ago from Asia and it's still my favorite PS3 game.
Also the only game where I have the platinum trophy. So, why do I love this game? It is one of the hardest games of the last couple of years, where every gamedeveloper goes casual this Japanese studio made a game that is unforgiving. If you die, you'll have to do the whole level again and you lose all your souls (which are used to increase your stats and also the currency to buy weapons and skills). Also, you will respawn as a ghost, which means 50% life. If you get to the place where you died, you can reclaim your souls but if you die again, your souls are lost forever. Now, this seems too much, but you have to realize that the game is 100% fair. If you die, it is your own fault (although there are little annoying places where you fall into a pit because the camera is a little weird). You will die though, but this is neccesary to understand the mechanics of the monsters, but when you know how to fight them it really is rewarding. The game also has amazing boss fights and some of them are brutal. Getting the platinum trophy means you have to play through the game 3 or more times and every time you do this, the game becomes harder. NG+ (New Game plus) for example has monsters with 300% hp, and since every monster can kill you (some 1 or 2 shot you) this means that you will have to be close to perfect at every moment. The atmoshere is also one of the best, with dark and gruesome settings everywhere. |

A sequel is coming out either late 11 or early 12, called Dark Souls.

They are making a sequel?
Yeah I played this game, beat it i think twice, and loved it. The best fighting system in any game I've played. Every weapon has a unique style to it. |

I found the game to be pretty terrible actually.
There is a combat formula to win almost all the time... mostly because blocking is too good. Additionally, if you happen to die twice in a row, you are totally boned by the game. No game is 100% 'fair' and the penalty is so absurdly massive that only true idiots play for a long time if they aren't naturally great at the game. I'm naturally great at the game, but my friend was not... he tried to play for a long time, but just got destroyed constantly. The game is hard for the first couple hours cuz you have no gear, then it's easy if you know what you are doing. While it's an 'ok' game, it will make you want to RAAAAAGEEEEE QUIIIITTTTTTTT more than any game you've ever played before it. losing souls is not that big an issue . there is a farming spot near the end of the game that will grant you thousands of easy souls . the hyperinflated cost of stat growth does put the game into the laughable/unpleasant/bs catagory until you reach the farming spot though . --- .

" It really is a game that divides its player base: either you love it or you hate it. Only looking at the different reviews of the game you'll see incredibly high marks and incredibly low marks :) For me the moments of frustration were outweighed by the rewarding moments. |
