Where's Purity of Chaos?

maybe stop hating on absolutely fucking every topic and give some constructive criticism? I swear to god I must be getting too fucking old for gaming (sub)forums because it's the same sad shit in every game and every topic

OP makes a pretty well laid out post where he (correctly) observes that there is a lack of chaos resistance compared to elemental resistances, sure he whines a lot and is a bit aggressive ("is this GGG's favorite element" "does GGG hate ES") but maybe he is just frustrated (or also a kid), he suggests that a purity of chaos gem is added which isn't a weird thought/idea/suggestion at all but immediately the 15-20yo kids have to shit on OP and bitch about the game's difficulty and other shit that's TOTALLY irrelevant to the topic, fucking little autistic kids that feel the need to disagree with everything that is different

to actually respond to the topic, I think it is a good idea but I would not make it as strong as purity of fire/ice/lightning; I would most likely make the amount of resistances granted similar to that of purity of elements and/or change the reservation cost from 40 to 60

Chaos resists should not have an aura. Chaos dmg should not have resists outside of uniques. By far one of the absolute worst changes they brought to this game.

I really have no opinion, but one thing I would comment on, is that I don't see this as a 'difficulty' debate at all, so just wondering. Is there something special about chaos over other damage types that warrants it being harder to obtain?

It's chaos dmg. The *entire* point was that it wasn't an element. That you couldn't resist it outside of uniques and CI.

EDIT: And the uniques that did have it, had like 5%.

See, I was not aware of this, I did not play the beta, but I equivolate it to 'poison' damage that is in every ARPG, and GGG just wanted to be fancy and re-name it.

It's good they changed it however, that would lead to mass-dependency on a select few items that have the resistance, although chaos isn't that prominent.

Really though, I could support your stance if we didn't have a resist stat that dips heavily into negative values by merciless. Having a damage type, and a corresponding resistance without supply is pretty gimmicky, if not outright silly. If a games difficulty revolves around a damage type that you don't provide the players opportunity to resist, well, that's pretty bad.

I could support an aura for this resistance as it stands otherwise. Why not? Not having a resistance to a damage type doesn't a harder game make. I see it as poison damage, really nothing more. I see it's unique-ness in like poison, it doesn't seem to be mitigated by armor values, and applies to health directly through things like ES.

I'm on your side with chaos aura. That said, limiting chaos resist only on uniques is extreme level of nonsense, it would make uniques a requirement which is a thing that GGG is opposed from the start. I even remember idea of giving magic items higher mod rolls that even they could be an option (not happend ofc due to regal orb existence). Mainly what I tried to say is I'm strongly opposed to forcing of a specific type of item on players, and I believe GGG is against a mechanic that could lead to it.

Except poison damage is usually a DOT effect, and not applied bypassing a basic defence type.

Chaos res didn't get scaled to -60% in merciless before they added the res mods/rings. It was a flat 0% and now it feels overtuned because you need to get at least 60 chaos res to be where it was before. Chaos res was a huge mistake, it nullified uniques that were truly "unique" due to having chaos res and basically made it the hardest "element" to get res for. It used to be a unique damage type, but I am guessing they did this due to PVP. Skills that used chaos damage needed a ton to do PVE then putting those builds in PVP with very few counters would have also been a bad idea. Imagine PVP with a poison arrow archer clouding the whole arena, staunching flasks don't work with that.

I think it would have been better addressed with just the introduction of amethyst flasks, but its too late now.

I'm saying it shouldn't have ever been changed, thus 0% and the dmg tuned accordingly
