Item Rarity gem not working

I found an "item rarity" support gem and added it to my boots supporting a "flammability" gem. It's 30%+ add to my finding rare items does not show up in the misc tab of my character panel and it doesn't seem to be giving me the bonus. How does this gem actually work?

The linked skill needs to be the one that makes the hit that kills the enemy or it won't take effect. I recommend linking it to the skill gem that you use most.

Ok, that makes sense. Unfortunately, I will have to sacrifice either melee physical damage or life leech. I guess I need find the same weapon with more sockets with better links.

" not necessarily. you can link item rarity to another skill you use to finish rare or boss monsters. it doesn't need to do much damage if you link the "culling strike" support gem to it which will kill the monster in one hit if it only has 10% of his original life left. personally the most convenient setup is to let your minions do the work. for example you can let a totem continually produce skelletons and add rarity and culling support to it.. with this setup you only have to bring down enemies health with some area damage spell and skeletons do the culling for you while you are already on your way to other monsters. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

If you are short on socket space you can put cull on weapon switch. You won't have it all the time but it is easy enough to hit 'x' to finish off a boss or rare. Spectral throw-culling strike-item rarity or something similar will work fine.

Item rarity synergizes well with Culling Strike. If you put both on CWDT and ice nova the mobs will often kill themselves with it. But that limits how high you can level the gem. If you have a vaal gem like vaal spark it can be a good coup de gras combo.
