Cruel difficulty quest Ascent To Power stuck on "Search Traitor's Passage"

The quest markers point me to activating the Balbala fight but killing him does not advance the quest state.

This prevents me from gaining Ascendancy points as even though I finished the Barja for the appropriate level and number of trials the altar is not interactable at the end of the challenge.

I searched the internet and found some reddit threads where people describe having the exact same problem.

same issue, others have posted alot about it here also. Hope it gets resolved soon.
