You read it as 500 chaos damage over 10 seconds. It's 500 chaos damage per second for 10 seconds. We also don't know if it'll stack. And the word chaos is there so I wouldn't doubt that it gets increased by chaos damage as well. There will still be some space to clean/craft with the master mods (if you are lucky enought to get one free suffixe/prefix slot) but you'll be limited to one essence use only.
