Molten Shell - The build
I'm working on a PvE variant (wha!? y u no pvp?) that doesnt use Zerphi's at all. So far its pretty neat. At the very least, I have been doing practical tests of phys armor + endurance charges/phys reduction methods.
With 27k armor, 5 endurance charges, chaos golem, and 4% phys reduction from skill tree, molten shell explodes every time. With Endurance Charges up, I do not require any flasks to activate molten shell. Here's my gear (elementalist):

Why Elementalist? Proliferate, 25% fire pen, AoE, status ailments. -Also tried on marauder (Juggernaut) - great for reaching max endurance charges, doesnt require Determination aura, may be a viable option for someone who wants to pvp without a zerphi's Lastly, regarding the math you have with armor, I tested out 52k armor + the 4% phys reduction node on the skill tree and that provides 85% physical reduction. Base trigger radius is 10 units
with old 220% trap trigger radius = 32 units with new 210% trap trigger area from tree + 5 Hair Trigger (60%) = 24.7 (25?) units it still within cluster trap spread area, nothing changed. Problem: impostor syndrome
