0.9.6 Patch Notes
" Tempest Shield has a damage progression like a spell, so the level of the Skill Gem is where the base damage comes from. How often it "goes off" is determined by how often you block, so that is scaled from your block chance, and your ability to throw yourself in harms way.
" Cold Snap is meant as a utility spell, not primary damage.
Those updates sound very nice, looking forward for the quest window changes as well as area changes you plan, can't wait to see/test them! :)
Wanted to ask about how far are you with Player Auras, but dug up this on Google (that answered about it): " If you ever do plan to add auras for players, they of course shouldn't stack if another player has the same aura in the instance and nearby, but would count the highest level one. I didn't quite like it, but Titan Quest had this mana cost per second to maintain an aura, which increased to a certain point of it to a cost 2 mana per second, that would reduce the mana regeneration ratings to maintain the aura as long as you have enough mana. That way you could have as many active auras as you can maintain, however Diablo's way of handling auras was more simple, yet good. You could use only one active aura at a time with no extra mana cost to maintain it, but you couldn't use multiple auras - I like this method more, since you have to choose only one aura at a time, in my opinion, better for balancing. Some suggestions of mine for upcoming Friends List (Whenever it will be added): http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/17730 Also didn't find anything useful about your standpoint for adding crossbows for a strength/dexterity players (a paladin build) in the future (could be further down the path on adding content for the game, maybe after the game has been open beta) Last edited by Voldzito#4785 on Feb 6, 2012, 5:48:05 PM

Yes, the three elements cancelling out is a special case - the skill is specifically intended to encourage you to swap between different elements, not to always hit with all three.
Hitting with two elements at once provides the combined benefits of hitting with each of those elements - as pointed out that's +10% resistance to each of those elements and -40% to the other one. The (de)buff lasts for 5 seconds, or until replaced because they were hit again - only one of these debuffs can be on a creature at a time, so hitting again replaces the existing one.
" Thanks for the quick reply but I have to ask for a little clarification. So this is purely a spell effect and modified as such? Physical damage, Strength and Weapon Elemental mods will have no effect on it? Also is this skill able to crit? |
|
" Physical, Strength and Weapon Elemental damage will not affect it. Spell Damage and Lightning Damage will. Yes it can crit, the crit chance is currently set to 6%. It was a lot of fun testing it at 10% crit. We may have to reduce the crit, depending on how people use it. Our beta testers, as a group, tend to find many more creative ways to abuse the skills in testing than we do.
Thanks for the details Mark- seems like a great way to encourage using a variety of attack skills, instead of spamming just one (not counting elemental hit).
*edit* I'm still curious about the following. " Last edited by Lo4f#2652 on Feb 6, 2012, 6:21:04 PM

Is there any interaction between Tempest Shield and the Necromantic Aegis (Keystone that gives abilities of your shield to your minions)? Or since minions (zombies) cannot block would this be another poor synergy?
Also does the Shield work for other "blocks" (dual wield and staff) or does strictly apply to only shields? (Apologies if this has been covered, I haven't read the entire thread). |
|
"Tempest Shield requires you to have a shield, and only works when you block with that shield. This means that you can't use it with dual wield or staff block, because you can't have a staff + shield or dual wield + shield. Also, because it's cast on you and triggers when you block, this won't work well with necromantic aegis, which gives the shield's stats (including it's block chance) to the minions instead of you.
" *ponders* I wonder if it's possible to get enough elemental damage on wands to slide this into a dual-Wand / Power Siphon build. Something like an /ColdDamage/ Wand of /ColdDamage%/ in one hand and Lightning in the other... |
