2.6.0 Area of Effect Changes

Patch 3.0.0:
-Remove every melee skill gems and their support gems in the game because they're all irrelevant and to save some space.
-You're going to play Spell or Proj. whether you like it or not.
-Change the game's name to "Path of Spell and Projectiles.
-LUL 4Head EleGiggle
-Kappa
So my build (herald of ash prolif) now has 55% of the aoe it used to. Going from barely viable to 1000% dead.

The goal of this change is to make investing in the size of your area skills to be less rewarding the more you invest, so players don't feel like they need to gather every single point of area radius to reach their character's full potential.

There was already diminishing returns to investing in increased radius for skills with area of effect. The reason is because as you increase the radius, you are only increasing the chance that your target(s) are within the radius, and this chance can never be above 100%.

Good thinking actually.

This is not correct. A circle, a cone, a square or any other shape will have all lines within it incrased by the same ratio when the area is increased. I know, math is hard...

You're right, the game always scales radially so it doesn't actually matter even with a deadzone and what not. Whoops gotta do maths first since there's no complex geometry except r*r to r*r, or r * sqrt(1 + inc aoe) = new radius.

Shall we expect patches 2.6.0b - 2.6.0z over the next 2 months?
RIP melee
There are still a lot of things in the game other than skill/spell gems that rely on area of effect to make them viable as focus for a build (and still far from popular) like Obliteration proc, Minion Instability, Herald of Ice/Ash, Ele Prolif......all those mechanics and builds will go die in a corner just because no one thought about rebalancing their base aoe to compensate those nerfs? Great
EQ Cyclone Reave Lacerate nerfed. Well melee, it was fun.
Do we know how large the AoE of Impact is now? Not the +aoe part but the melee splash to single target skills part? Is that just the same size as melee splash or different?
