I discovered PoE while talking to my friend on Steam. Our conversation went something like this (warning - foul language on my part):
Me: HOLY SHIT SON YOU KNOW WHAT GAME WAS THE MOTHERFUCKING BEE'S KNEES? DI-FUCKING-ABLO Him: whoa what Me: SHUT THE FRONT DOOR BOYO TIME TO REINSTALL Him: there's a diablo like game coming out Me: DIABLO LIKE?!?!?! BRAH YOU CAN'T RECREATE THE GREATEST GRIND OF ALL TIME DON'T MAKE ME DRIVE ACROSS TOWN AND SLAP YOUR SHIT UNTIL YOUR DICK BLEEDS Him: www.pathofexile.com Me: oh that looks kinda cool |

I found out about Path Of Exile from the diablo 3 forum. I'm so glad I did!

You spend enough time around people of the same interests and word spreads. I saw a game play trailer on YouTube of this late last year and was really intrigued by how similar the game play was to D2, yet how much more passionate GGG was about their game and all these distinct features they kept coming up with to improve the hack 'n slash genre.
I also frequent the D3 forum, and while I'm kinda put-off by the changes there, I plan to try it out for the epic story, coop play, and possibly if the community can be as great as D2 was back in its prime. I still believe in that game, it's just not what I thought it'd be and doubt it'd tide me over for as long as D2 did (5+ years) since it's not as competitive now. Anyhow, PoE had completely slipped my mind by Summer of 2011 until a D3 forum-goer refreshed it when they posted about how much more this game was akin to the Diablo feel than D3. And here I am: Ready and waiting for my ticket to hack 'n slash paradise. Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
