Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games
" Well, like a great many people before him, he has reason to think he can somehow ride the tiger and keep from getting eaten. I hope he's right. I would hate to see Path of Exile meddled with the same way D&D online, Warhammer or Neverwinter was. My hope aside... the results of these sorts of buyouts are typically ugly in the video game industry, so what I HOPE will happen and what I (sadly) BELIEVE will happen are at odds. " Not lie to us about independence? Aaron Ciccheli, a guy who made millions running Diablo and PoE RMT sites, owns a significant portion of GGG. How's that for a conflict of interest? 7.5% of your supporter pack money goes to this guy.

" You are very naive to think that new owner of GGG will only throw money on company and have no "wishes" of their own. GGG is no longer independent and will follow company strategy. I cant believe that people think that Tencent will only give them money lol come on! |

" This is related to the profit distribution, it has nothing to do with internal/external decision making. Step1) If i see company A as profitable i can invest my life savings for a 51% share. Steo2) If the company numbers rise and profits increase i get my money back 5-10 years. Step3) Profit! I don't need to make a single operational decision if numbers are growing. This also can be arranged in a contract, which i believe is the case here. |

It seems like Devs lost faith in their own game and decided to cash out and sell their souls to the Devil. If i knew 6 years ago that they would do this i would never have put my time and cash into this. Such a huge dissapointment.
Edit : Not gonna support Tencent with any $. Sorry . I hope in future there is hope for GGG retaking control over PoE. If not i guess i should start looking for another game. IGN : Sir_Big Last edited by Achilion#0497 on May 21, 2018, 6:18:36 AM

" I don't blame Chris for this decision. He working hard last 10 years for make this happend. Yeah, he is stole 95% of content from other games (D2, FF X, etc.) but he got success. So why not? This is just a bussines after all. Aaron Ciccheli, a guy who made millions running Diablo and PoE RMT sites, owns a significant portion of GGG. How's that for a conflict of interest? 7.5% of your supporter pack money goes to this guy.

GGG players are basically not the major standing stone anymore like they used to be with the unconsistent revenue during league starts/expansions.
I guess that was not enough money anymore to pay for the development expenses and a growing company. Now that Tencent gives you an annual (and hopefully consistent) chunck of money i guess you will reconsider your funding model regarding supporter packs. Given that Tencent now expects a good annual revenue (while leaving your independent, flexible) i guess you will start experimenting with subscription based funding models, which supplement the usual supporter packs during leagues.
