Overheating GPU (workarounds, patches, fixes ?)
98 degree (celsius !) all the time in all maps...what the hell ?! Other games: 65 - 85 degree max.
At 98 degree NVidia Cards start throttling? (means reducing power to prevent damage). I have a dual gpu system and the hotter one is throttled to 70% which results in framerate issues. That's not really good for the lifetime of a gpu :/ I know, this is an old issue in PoE, but it was never so heavy. I realized, that this issue is very drastically in maps with burning ground or rain. There could be a big problem with the particle effects. ign: CATERNIA Last edited by Armageddon82#1747 on Mar 13, 2013, 7:33:46 AM

" Official in what sense? It's a third party program, so officially, it will get you banned. However it's open source, it's clean, and it does what it says it does. |

And the devs of PoE ? Is there any statement from them about this temperature issue ? I mean, this is not a small problem...At this state this software could damage your hardware !
Please don't misunterstand this, I love this game, but this is frightening. And I don't use third party software pushing my 85er char in my a... xD ign: CATERNIA Last edited by Armageddon82#1747 on Mar 13, 2013, 8:19:14 AM

Turn off shadow and post processing. I get 10 degrees less when i have them off.
Can't believe a diamond supporter and alpha member is sending you to hack programs and illegal stuff. Oo Last edited by mabllo#5074 on Mar 13, 2013, 8:30:22 AM

" This guy is having a problem. I pointed him in the general direction of a known solution, and made it clear that using it could result in a ban. What's the issue, and what does my diamond thing have to do with anything? |

I guess you're not using vSync? The game currently has no way to cap your frame rate so it will push your GPU to its limits trying to get the most FPS possible, if I disable vSync my game will jump to 300fps when not in combat, and "MA GAWD" you should hear the fans rawr. For now I would enable vSync as limiting your frame rate with external programs will cause screen tearing.
Without vSync my GPU will go to 80% fan speed, 99% usage, with it's at 40% fan speed, 15% usage.
VSync is enabled, but the Framerate is at 125 fps and not 120fps and reducing the refresh rate via windows to 60hz is not really a smart solution.
Disabling the shadows and post processing works for the temperature, but that's not a smart solution too. And what is with the large number of guys playing the game and don't know that their GPUs are boiling, because they don't monitor the temperatures/usages ?! GGG should not wait until these people start a class action because of molten GPUs. And for casual PC users maybe, these workarounds are impositions. Not a good requirement to lead this game to a great success. ign: CATERNIA Last edited by Armageddon82#1747 on Mar 13, 2013, 12:02:36 PM

" I didn't suggest reducing the refresh rate. I suggested enabled vSync because 60fps won't push the GPU as hard as 300fps, but you have a 120Hz monitor so it won't benefit you as much. I'm guessing you're using something like Evga Precision X to automatically increase your fan speed as your GPU temp increases? I have a fairly aggressive fan curve to keep my GPU under 70c at all times, the max operating temp for my GPU is 98c, but I'd never let it get near that.
" My fan is blowing like a jet-engine on it's maximum speed the hole time :( and my fan curve is modified for steeper increase too. I'm using the MSI Afterburner for GPU operation and monitoring and it say's: "Red Alert !" xD Never seen such extreme temperatures before, except in playing ego shooters in 3D Vision Surround in 5760*1080 resolution with activated SSAA and maximum detail settings. That is really strange ! Deactivating shadows and post processing reduced the temp. to 85 - 90 degree, as long as there are no burning grounds or things like the slowing black pool of these zombies. Then it reaches the 98 degree again. All these particle effects need a complete overhaul :( I'am sorry for the devs. ign: CATERNIA Last edited by Armageddon82#1747 on Mar 13, 2013, 4:22:02 PM

Not sure then really, if other games are fine that's a weird one. I know my GPU usage and temps were very high at 300fps but with vSync 120fps should be OK. It might be worth busting out some compressed air and giving your GPU and case fans a good blow out, it can't hurt at least.
