So, I'm thinking I'll run this build again the next league, because I loved it a lot (and started this league late anyway). But I have an idea for a little twist.

I only had two issues with it, one is the relatively painful early leveling (not a big deal, and worth it!), and the other is that sometimes I wish I could turn RF off, eg. when doing trials/Labyrinth (because damn traps, I could use the extra regen when I'm not burning myself) or when having a map with "killing enemies close together can summon monsters from Beyond" modifier, and trying to round the trash up to a small area without them dying as soon as they come near.

So my idea:
- Aim for a 6L 2H weapon. (There is even a unique staff with some fire/burn related bonuses I think?) Use it for RF. This way I can swap weapons to turn RF off and back on at will (it turns off when gem is not in a worn item, and automatically turns back on when it is there again).
- For alt weapons, use a buffed shield and a weapon that has Life and Regen on it, so when I swap, I get even more tanky than only by turning RF off. This could also be used to quickly regenerate Life if needed, or even before I'm able to sustain RF indefinitely, to "reset" my Life.
- I can buy a chest with good stats for cheap because it's not a 6L (get a 2x 3L or just Fuse, 2x 3L is relatively easy to get) for the gems that would normally be in the weapons. And if I do get a 6L with good stats, I can experiment with replacing some gems, perhaps.

What do you think? :D

I believe you're referring to the Searing Touch staff, which I bought as a 5L some weeks ago to house my RF. Currently saving up for a 6L version of it. It's absolutely wondrous; really a huge damage bonus, of course at the cost of some survivability that comes with a shield. But who needs life when things die before they can get close enough to hit you? ;)

But yeah, having a 2H 6L for RF gives you the option of rocking Kaom's Heart, which is a yuuuuuuge boost in defense for us.

As it happens, I eschewed Cyclone for Scorching Ray for my take on this build, and while it comes with some sacrifices (can't really Hit at all, and no Fortify), but what it offers in turn is not only a significant damage boost for RF with the debuff it applies, but the damage it deals, especially with Searing Touch, is actually not bad. So when it comes to Trials or Labs or anything where constantly burning for 90% of my life per second would be disadvantageous, I just don't turn RF on when I enter the map and instead rely on Scorching Ray and my nigh-unkillability, and so far it's been great.

As others have said, a Dousing flask will help you turn it off in a pinch though.

And as for levelling, I discussed a couple pages back my experiment with levelling with Dominating Blow and Holy Relic, and honestly it makes the levelling for this build so utterly painless. It requires no investment in the tree, aside from perhaps temporarily taking a few of the 30-point stat nodes to let your gems level higher, so you can trundle right along Wrecker's build path until you're ready to sustain RF. It's really a pleasure.

I should add that I used Smite until gaining access to DB. Not sure if it's the most optimal, but with Ancestral Call it's quite fun. I almost wanted to just keep using it past lv28, but DB damage is leagues ahead.

Cheers!

What if I wanted quickly move around? With Whirling Blades, Leap Slam, Dash, Shield Charge, Flicker Strike or something? How to squeeze a movement skill into this build? Any tips appreciated. (Cyclone is slower than plain by-foot movement.) (Even Charged Dash is faster than Cyclone.)

Thanks for the answer, I'll stick to the vaal version then. Got a quality 12% vaal RF, I'll stick with that for now.

Another question, if I may?
I recently got this :

Does the spell cascade give negative effects on RF? (less area effect & less damage)
I read that spell cascade cannot support Vaal skills (I'm using vaal RF), tried equipping and removing while RF is on and cannot see reduced RF area.

But I'm not really sure about this spell cascade thing.
Hey Hansen_Haryono!

Nice weapon! The mod with Spell Cascade only impacts socketed gems. So since RF isn't socketed in that weapon, Spell Cascade doesn't bother it. Spell Cascade doesn't bother any of the equipped spells you currently have.

The idea sounds great! Gameplay is the ultimate test for sure. I have been playing with some ideas that have looked PERFECT on paper but then when I reached gameplay the build just didn't work smoothly or flow nicely.

So your ideas sound great! Let us know how they work out!

Hey Jhssutrx! You can replace Cyclone with any movement skill you want. Inspiration will work with any skill you choose. If you want to keep Fortify, keep the movement skill Melee. Otherwise, you can make it anything you like to fit your style.

Let us know what you choose!

This build does not worry about fire resistance - that's huge.

I am in SSF, so my gear is what I picked up. For example, my belt only has 21% cold resist on it:

I found a Kaom's Heart in SSF, so no resists there.

I have Righteous Fire in a staff, so no shield for resists. (though I crafted Lightning/Chaos resist onto the staff)

Even so, all my resists - including chaos resistance - are maxed out - 113/146/132/77 in town.

And to answer your question, this allowed me to work in an Unset Ring, which allowed me to add a movement skill.

(If you are in a trade league, a +3 unset ring would be nice for Purity of Fire.)

@stormhun we can turn off RF simply by using flask with dousing

True but it felt like a waste of a flask slot just for that.

I think you will have to use a potion of dousing as Hansen_Haryono said.

I have just tested. You are right, however, it seems it does not take affect for a few seconds after I swapped, I don't know why. Plus if I'm swapping from the 2H to a shield and weapon both with strong health buffs, I'll still have more regen than I would with the 2H that likely has fire dmg, ele dmg etc. on it instead.

So overall, it still works for getting some extra regen (esp. if I swap back and forth), and still does allow me to turn off the kill aura for rounding up monsters. And overall more convenient than the flask, plus the flask can run out of charges.

But for a "save my ass" scenario indeed a health flask with dousing will be more effective.

I'll definitely try it next league, as it can still offer advantages despite the fact pointed out by others that the life degen does not get removed on swap.

And I'll post here about how it went.

That's a good topic. I have four Bubbling divine health potions and an Overflowing Chalice (which I never remember to use).

What are you putting in your flask slots?

So what are the links you used for Smite, DB and Holy Relic when leveling?

Currently:

The first two give a bit of extra damage and move speed. The third gives DMG over time - but I'm not sure if the curse it gives messes things up by overriding Flammability?

Either way when I put that 3, things die definitely faster. And 2 health flasks are enough for me, at least for now.
