I used this in 2024 and it works :D

i removed pathofexile.exe and renamed pathofexile.tmp to pathofexile.exe
it worked but anyone care to explain why? and more important do i need to keep the original pathofexile.exe just in case or can i safely delete it?

have same problem, not seeing a tamp file.

I tried doing the removal of the files you said and it didn't change anything. After that I uninstalled the game and tried to reinstall but it didn't change anything.

Please assist.

Same issue.
PoE1.
PoE(1) is unable to semmlessly ugrade.
PoE downloads gigabytes from net, installs and configures a very complex sofware, and at the same time it fails to do the (one of) simplest thing: (on Windows11, but maybe other Win too) it cannot rename a file (rename PathOfExile.tmp to PathOfExile.exe). (Because of.. handling some write protection attributes on file or folder(?)) (Who makes it write-protected? Despite the readonly directory, manually the user can rename that file. The user can rename the file, the setup program cannot?..)
I am very surprised (and disappointed).
What should/can I (one user) do?
(For example, complete purge and reinstall of PoE? May it help? Is it guaranteed to retain (not delete) all my characters and settings? [All setting, except the readonly-attribute-handling behaviour.])
