Bear Trap

It falls under Cast because it does not deal Spell Damage, and as such Spell-specific modifiers do not apply.
Seems like Bear Trap isn't affected by 'Trap trigger radius' modifier from the tree, is this a bug? Should I make a thread in bug reports sub-forum?

It's not supposed to. Most Traps deal AOE Damage but Bear Trap is a special case as it requires mobs to more or less walk on top of it to deal its daamage.

Why not? "Trap trigger radius" has nothing relative to "AoE damage"

There's the bear trap:
 - its a trap
 - it triggers when someone in trigger radius
 - its 'secondary damage' cast

its not affected by "trap trigger radius" modifier.

There's Freezing Pulse trap:
 - its a trap
 - it triggers when someone in trigger radius
 - its a projectile spell

its affected by "trap trigger radius" modifier.

Where is damn logic?


Bear Trap gem needs a description 'trigger radius can't be increased' (because of balancing problems)

Its those niche skill gems yes. It's main use seems to be designed for PvP or as a hindrance to the Player with Rogue Exiles/Unique Enemies using Bear Trap. If anything at all though I'd love it if they reworked it to accept Melee Gems like Multistrike,Melee Splash and other Melee Gems. Could possibly open up new potential builds.

Is there a reason that bear trap almost isent supportet by any gems?

Dosent seem to get anything from added fire or added chaos gems.
Bear Trap doesn't deal Attack or Spell Damage (deals secondary damage), so it loses out on a fair number of Supports from that alone. Added Damage supports function just fine with secondary damage though; they clearly have an effect on Bear Trap as expected. 200% Damage Effectiveness even doubles the effects of Added Cold/Lightning/Chaos.
Have the skill be unaffected by chain reaction.
Chain reaction makes bear trap almost unusable as most enemies are not in the bear trap radius when they trigger due to their proximity to other traps.
Possible bug: When stacking bear traps that are triggered by an enemy not all traps hit the target, prior to taking chain reaction all traps would hit.

Will a critical hit with Bear Trap apply extra poison damage from the new ascendancy passive Toxic Delivery?
If multiple party members are throwing bear traps on the same monster does the root duration get reset to that of the most recent trap? Or do previously hitting traps' full root durations stay in effect?
