Anyone Grim Dawn?
The old thread are too old and can't reply those so that I made a new one.
So, I start the game and try to clear all the sidequest in normal difficulty, as well as start my elite difficulty run. It seems the game did not have a well written wiki so that it does not document the resistance penalty, and the wording of secondary resistances are different between gear and character windows too, which is way different experience than POE (and POE is way easy to cap elemental res and you are good mode) So, should POE add more damage type to make the game harder, or game as old as Grim Dawn, should have people to setup the wiki properly? It seems odd that stun resistance is on page 1, but physical resistance is on page 3. The latter, despite analogue to POE's armor and additional physical damage reduction stats, seems more important than stun. Even freeze / sleep / disruption seems more important than stun in Grim Dawn. So , what is your thoughts about that game. ---- edit: fixed typo. I mean wording . No way. One of the things I most disliked about Grim Dawn is how many damage types and hence resistances it has. PoE certainly doesn't need to copy that.

I've played both games a decent amount and I don't feel like Grim Dawn has anything that PoE needs that it doesn't already have.

I like Grim Dawn.
Though it does get a bit too grindy if you want to get all crafts unlocked & crafting kinda sucks. It has gotten better with patches because back in the day you couldn't actually search for stuff in the blacksmith window by typing it in there but you had to scroll for the things and find it manually. But even then it's like... Crafting higher level relics needs you to craft like 15 other relics that might need some monster infrequent items etc The faction stuff is neat but it takes forever to get high negative rep in some factions. It's also slower pace game than PoE and until the last dlc there weren't any movement skills that you could use without a target and getting those was a big quality of life. Getting all the resistances fixed isn't too bad but you'll basically want to know what faction augments you want to get before you get to highest difficulty level and decide "i'm gonna be hostile with this faction" only to realize later that you would've needed their augments to easily get capped res + more dmg or something like that. |

Forget anything you know about resistances from your PoE experience, Grim Dawn is a different animal altogether, though if you've played Titan Quest you should be in familiar waters. Your main concern must be the Resistances Tab below the Stats. Those are Fire, Cold, Lightning (the 3 usual Elementals), Poison/Acid (it's two different elements when attacks are concerned, but one when it's about defence), Piercing on the first row. Bleeding, Vitality, Aether, Stun and Chaos on the second row. Stun is almost impossible to get to high numbers, and it's not that important too, unlike PoE where it's insta-gib = kill, in Grim Dawn it's just a minor nuisance, so don't fret it, (same goes for those on the Defence Tab, Petrify & Freeze, doesn't hurt to get them as high as possible, but it's not the end of the world even if they are like zero). The rest of them all SHOULD BE as high as possible in order to be able to survive the end game trials. The Soft Cap is 80%. To override it you need items with the +% MAXIMUM RESISTANCE mod, like the Thread of Mortality amulet (in the screenshot) which gives my Tank two most valuable resistances, and on top, the much needed extra percentage of Attack Damage converted to Life. Those items should be treasured. Now if you ask me, I'd say that by far the most difficult to get in items is Aether, and also the Finally to get back to the Defence Tab resistances on the second page, the one (and perhaps the only) that should be prioritized is the Physical one. As you can see my Tank has 31%, and it was a real pain in the arse to get it that high. But it is sufficient —for now— still way to go. If there's one thing certain about Grim Dawn is that the game's itemization is top notch, you always find better loot, the next upgrade is just around the corner. Hope this helps, good luck. That is just way too damn many resistances to juggle. While the game does give you all the tool to do it, it does make gearing and weighing between options a pain. | |
GD isn't like PoE though. Even in Ultimate it's still very playable and survivable with mostly moderate resists. You don't need to have everything maxed at all times. And although there are many resists to consider, they are mostly easy to come by. Good gear is also very easy to come by. Keeping some spare pieces with different resists for different situations is worthwhile, and you can always swap out relic parts or change up your constellations if needed. GD is far more flexible in that regard.
Not like here, where you can be overcapped on all res with some +max and still get fucked over by some dumb shit you didn't see amongst the pixel-vomit. I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.

Way too many resistances to juggle, indeed, but the game gives you all the tools to do it. It is a pain. One has to suffer it gladly, in order to be able to enjoy the game.
Almost forgot, for our friend the OP: When you get to Fort Ikon DON'T Kill the witch Anasteria of the Outcast Faction, even if the Black Legion tells you to do so. Both Factions can still be your allies. You lose some reputation occasionally with the legion but the Outcasts more than worth it.
