" I think this first gem should give you some option on the first steps, so it have to be useful in any case. Randomizing them may give you a bow requiring one, but no bow to grab in the area if your not a ranger (or gem demanding a 2handed weapon - they seem to be not so common anymore on the shore- or most skills dont work with a wand...) And, the variety is limited to level 1 gems anyway... invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

" And that would be ok with me - i have many cleave from my beach amblings - never use cleave - burning arrow is nesting in my stash - dont use that either - all found on the beach - so i still think random is better than the same old same old - i mean you dont have to use it straight away - not like i can slam cleave into a bow oh or glacial whatever it is. random would eventually gimme something i can use more so than them choosing what i need when i have not followed the regular build :( |

And it's not as if a skill gem is even necessary to kill Hillock (hell, many of us did so with no weapons), so if you get a gem you can't use right away, it's not crippling to have it randomized. =^[.]^=
