You get LoH multiplied by number of mobs hit when using claws with melee splash, I can confirm. Sucks though in highlevel. 15LoH/claw is very low from around level 45+.
well, dual strike should be +30*number hit by splash, correct?

Yes, but you don't need Dual Strike to gain +30 LoH/target. You get the LoH bonus from dualclaws even if you use single weapon skills like Double Strike.
i wouldnt necessarily say no one uses claws, but the main problem right now with them is that the high level claws are all life leech(of physical damage only) not LoH, and claws typically have sub-par physical damage. the highest level claw with LoH is a lvl46 claw, so it's probably difficult finding one of them with high ilvl for rolling high level mods.
I disagree with this. The advantage of using claws is that with claws you can achieve a higher % leech than with other weapons, so you can do less physical damage and still manage to leech a decent amount, especially if you use melee splash, multistrike, and other melee AoE skills. In addition, if you build as a Shadow, you have access to quite a lot of crit nodes that can augment your physical damage (due to lowering mob's armour mitigation). Crit a melee splash into a crowd of mobs and you can easily max out your leech recovery rate. Also, life on hit does not work with Ghost Reaver, only % leech does, so if you are going that route, you must build for physical claw.

in terms of how much % leech you can have, of course claws are going to be the best weapon, but since the leech is based off the weapon's physical damage. a significantly higher damage weapon with a lower %leech may still result in more life leech, ontop of higher killing speed.
in terms of the potential physical damage a claw can have, since a claw has lower base physical damage than other weapons, it, therefore, has lower potential physical damage.
edit: slightly irrelevant, but it's also harder to roll a good physical claw compared to a, say, a maul or a axe. since claws can roll some caster mods like mana regen, it draws from a larger pool of mods.

Yes, but with claws, it is easier to get enough crit chance/multiplier to compensate for the low base physical damage.

I've heard that using the life on hit support gem with melee splash allows you to gain life for each mob that is hit with the splash, but what about the life on hit from claws? Do you gain life per mob hit or just once?
Doesn't matter. No one sane uses claws as of right now.
I use them.. in fact I duel wield claws on my lvl 71 ranger that can clear 75 maps.
They are low end damage but 4k duel strike with melee splash gets the job done with 3 aps
And the fact no one uses them I can't find better ones!!!!
And I wish I had an exalt for this...
and this...
to poor to afford them and found 1 in near 400 hours of play. Which was in a race...

darticus could you explain why? I am trying to understand why 3% physical life leech would be better than say 80% global crit chance from a platinum kris. I have always thought the claw passives were quite underwhelming and there are a fair amount of one handed passives. Why wouldn't you use at least one dager? Perhaps you could also post your passive tree.
