Why are we not allowed to zoom out more or use 32:9?

People literally purchased multiple thousand dollar ultra-wide screen monitors to be able to actually see more of the game when they play it and avoid all of the screen clutter and low visibility you have to deal with and they decided instead of actually solving the problem, they cap the aspect ratio so that you can't zoom out more without starting to see black bars now?

So the people who are stuck with a large ultra-wide monitor have to actually play with black bars because that's their native resolution otherwise it will start looking weird if they switch to 21:9.

Look at the difference yourself https://youtu.be/tUEUP_3N8Ek https://youtu.be/CIqaORHoS2s

Now, what would you prefer to play? The option that has LESS visibility? Or more? The answer is obvious.

What is the actual reasoning for this? How is it a game advantage to be able to see what's happening on your screen when it's already filled with effects that severely limit your visibility? Other ARPGs such as Last Epoch, Torchlight 2, Grim Dawn, Wolcen all allow 32:9 ultrawide resolutions to enhance FOV, even D3, a game from 2012 allows 32:9 so what's PoE's excuse?

PoE:

D3:

You guys should see how much other games like Runescape, Lost Ark, etc. let you zoom out. Then if you compare that to PoE, it feels crammed.

You already can zoom out so little and they literally have the technology to let you zoom out more. In the hideout you could buy last year, they gave you a hideout that lets you zoom out more. So they're literally showing you that it's possible for them to implement into the game, yet they won't let you zoom out more during gameplay. Why? It makes no sense. It's not an advantage to be able to see more of the game when your entire screen is cluttered with mtx and mob explosion effects.

Let us zoom out more. Bring back: 32:9, Heist Alt Quality Gems, Sextants, Gear Enchanting, Prophecy, Perandus, Metamorph, Scourge, Sentinel, Kalandra & Crucible. Stop removing content from the game.

They literally did that? Not figuratively?
Because GGG loves having your characters get constantly mowed down by a physical/elemental/chaos barrage from a ranged pack of 100 mobs positioned offscreen, and often without any cover to maneuver around it.

You need to "git gud" and develop expert precognition skills, or play another ARPG where such skills are not required. Those other games may also allow you to play a melee build where standing still and being in melee range is allowed. I suggest Last Epoch.

Having things on your screen before they attack and kill you is clearly too fair in the eyes of GGG, so expect that to change around the same time they implement a death log, which is never. Oh hey Last Epoch has a death log too. Maybe Tencent can fund a death log development for GGG in POE?
Short answer. Essentially GGG said their servers will blow up.

There is truth to the claim. Is it necessary? Can't say. Not on that side of the fence.

None of the reasons they provided make enough sense to warrant their decisions. Clearly, the game was able to handle it before they made this change. Look at YouTube videos of players or streams of people like CuteDog_ playing in 32:9. It worked just fine. They internally view it as some type of advantage to actually see more of your screen and gave some type of safe answer that you can't get mad at them about to go through with their decision. In what world would you prefer to see LESS of the game that you are playing?

They really come off as a dev team that just views almost anything as "this is too much of an advantage". Of course, having a 32:9 screen that shows more of the game is an advantage. Now whose fault is it that people get these monitors to see more of the game in the first place? Because if we were allowed to zoom out more with our character, none of this would be a problem. The screen we see is so crammed as is that it's borderline mandatory to play at 21:9. You can't go back once you try it. There are people who even have a 16:9 monitor and they play in windowed mode with the screen stretched out but missing the bottom half. This is because the vertical line-of-sight stays pretty much the same, but the horizontal changes, making it so you can actually see more of the game you are interacting with.

How do you know? Did they share profiling and diagnostic data with you?

Oh... streamers. We can't complaing without them. So, do they have diagnostic and profiling data shared with the GGG?

I run 21:9 and would be mad if they dropped it to 16:9 too but the game running fine and the servers running fine with ever increasing aspect ratios is different. I'm not defending the choice either. PC gaming has always been P2W when it comes to hardware.

Personally I think they just don't want to invest into PoE anymore than they need to for the sake of PoE2 which will likely solve those issues. Their claims to keep updating both games might be technically true but we all know the money maker gets the investment. They're not going to compete against themselves.

i also feel the loss of the widescreen support but what concerned me more is my performance went way down immediately after the change.

for zero benefit, it was a punishment that came with additional punishment.

This one is me. It also makes everything smaller to the eye which is an advantage. I don’t nee to see my char as big as it is now and every skill is less flashy and less eye disturbing.
And yes, once you go there and realise how better the game becomes, you’ll never go back.
